Excerpt from Colonial Furniture and Decorations: Important Pieces of Furniture Chiefly in Mahogany, Hooked Rugs, Early American and English Georgian Silver, Lowestoft, Staffordshire and Lustre Ware, Pewter and Brass A group of over seventy selected hooked rugs includes two largeearly hooked carpets from Maine [nos. 83 and the second of which, dating from about 1820-30, and 10 feet square, is said to be the finest of its kind in the market, and has an appraised value of several thousand dollars. An array of Georgian silver and Sheffield plate boasts many Irish pieces, including a rare two-handled silver cup of the reign of James II, tankards, cake-baskets, etc. The American silver comes mainly from the collection of Mrs. Anderson of Portland, Me., and was on loan until the beginning of the present year to the Longfellow Memorial of that city. We may make mention of an important tankard [no. 280] attributed to Paul Revere and originally presented to the old First Parish Church of Charlestown, Mass. In 1793. The rest of the collection includes Staffordshire and lustre ware, etc., Stiegel, Sandwich and Irish glass [the last from the Lawton collee tion], brass, pewter and the smaller decorative objects, of which we may refer to a rare set of Washington andirons [no.
