Book Description
High-Pressure Research: Applications in Geophysics contains the papers presented during a U.S.-Japan joint seminar held in Honolulu, Hawaii, 6-9 July 1976. The seminar brought together scientists engaged in high pressure-high temperature research to exchange ideas on the latest state-of-the-art developments, their experimental results, and their latest interpretations with regard to the significance of these results to the geophysical sciences in general. Four formal sessions were held. Of the forty-two papers presented at the seminar, thirty-nine appear as contributed papers and three as abstracts in this volume. The papers in Session I examine the geophysics and geochemistry of the crust and upper mantle. The contributions in Session II focus on phase transitions related to Earth's deep interior. Session III is devoted equations of state and shock wave experiments while Session IV covers instrumentation, pressure calibration, and standardization.

Book Description
Foundations of Geophysical Electromagnetic Theory and Methods, Second Edition, builds on the strength of the first edition to offer a systematic exposition of geophysical electromagnetic theory and methods. This new edition highlights progress made over the last decade, with a special focus on recent advances in marine and airborne electromagnetic methods. Also included are recent case histories on practical applications in tectonic studies, mineral exploration, environmental studies and off-shore hydrocarbon exploration. The book is ideal for geoscientists working in all areas of geophysics, including exploration geophysics and applied physics, as well as graduate students and researchers working in the field of electromagnetic theory and methods. Presents theoretical and methodological foundations of geophysical field theory Synthesizes fundamental theory and the most recent achievements of electromagnetic (EM) geophysical methods in the framework of a unified systematic exposition Offers a unique breadth and completeness in providing a general picture of the current state-of-the-art in EM geophysical technology Discusses practical aspects of EM exploration for mineral and energy resources

Book Description
This monograph is the last volume in the series 'Acoustic and Elastic Wave Fields in Geophysics'. The previous two volumes published by Elsevier (2000, 2002) dealt mostly with wave propagation in liquid media. The third volume is dedicated to propagation of plane, spherical and cylindrical elastic waves in different media including isotropic and transversely isotropic solids, liquid-solid models, and media with cylindrical inclusions (boreholes). * Prevalence of physical reasoning on formal mathematical derivations * Readers do not need to have a strong background in mathematics and mathematical physics * Detailed analysis of wave phenomena in various types of elastic and liquid-elastic media.

Book Description
This book is a contribution to the International Year of Planet Earth arising from the 33rd International Geological Congress, held in Oslo, Norway during August 2008. The first section of the book considers aspects of geochemical processes which led to the development of the solid Earth as it is today. The second portion of the book shows how the rapidly-evolving analytical tools and approaches presently used by geochemists may be used to solve emerging environmental and other societal problems. This unique collection of reviews, with contributions from a range of internationally distinguished scientists, will be invaluable reading for advanced students and others interested in the central role geochemistry in the earth sciences.

Book Description
Mining Geophysics, Second Revised and Up-dated Edition serves as an introduction to the methods of ore mining and prospecting in the perspective of geophysics. The book explains the role of geophysics in ore prospecting; the collection and presentation of related data; and the location of ores through different methods such as the self-potential method, electromagnetic methods, induced polarized methods, seismic, and radioactive methods. The book also details the concepts and procedures behind said methods. The monograph is recommended for those in the mining industry who would like to know more about the methods of locating ores, as well as for geologists and geophysicists who aim to understand more and make studies about this phenomenon.
