Leonard Calvert (1610-1647) was the second son and sixth child of George Calvert (1579/1580-1632) the first Lord Baltimore. Leonard accompanied his father to Newfoundland, then returned to England. After his father's death, his older brother (the second Lord Baltimore) appointed Leonard as the governor of Maryland. He and his family reached there in 1634 (although he returned in 1643 to England, when summoned by his brother).
