Gas-Chromatographic Analysis of Trace Impurities
Author: V. G. Berezkin
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9781468415995
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Recent scientific and industrial developments have demon strated the major effects (advantageous or otherwise) of trace components in compounds, which in commercial products may substantially affect the properties and the course of reactions, especially catalytic ones. Some of these problems (e.g., the pur ity of natural waters and air) have attracted the attention not only of specialists but also of society generally. It would be impossible to do research on trace components and contaminants if we did not have reliable rapid and sensitive methods of determining substances present in mixtures in minute concentrations. Gas chromatography is an effective method of purity testing. This book deals with analysis for trace components, together with the basic methods of gas chromatography that are used for the purpose. We have tried to reflect here the principal papers in this area appearing in the foreign literature and in Rus sian. Weare indebted to Plenum Pre~'B for the opportunity of pre senting this edition. Moscow September 1972 v Preface Gas -chromatographic analysis for impurities is presently a rapidly developing area in gas chromatography, because many practical topics give considerable importance to impurity analy sis. Progress in this analysis bas been such for volatile com pounds (and also for nonvolatile ones, when reactive gas chroma tography is used) that one can now be confident of solving most practical problems in this way. Commercial ionization detectors of high sensitivity and selectivity often allow one to detect impuri ties down to levels of parts in 109.

Gas Chromatography in Air Pollution Analysis
Author: V.G. Berezkin
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080858562
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 225
Book Description
Air pollution determination is one of the most important fields of gas chromatography application in practice. This book provides a systematic description of the main stages of air pollution determination, ranging from sampling problems to the quantitative estimation of the acquired data. Special attention is paid to the problem of gas, vapor, spray and solid particles extraction from air. The main methods of sampling procedure, namely, container utilization, cryogenic concentration, absorption, adsorption, chemisorption and filter usage, and successive impurities extraction are also handled. Sorption theory and the problems of sorption and desorption efficiency for hazardous impurities being extracted from traps with sorbents are discussed in detail. The practical utilization of different sorbents (silica, activated carbon, polymers etc.) to carry out sampling procedures for 200 main pollutants with known TLV (USSR and USA) is also considered. This highly informative book, reflecting several insufficiently known techniques as well as the experience of both western and Soviet researchers, should be of interest to both beginners and skilled researchers.

Trace Analysis of Specialty and Electronic Gases
Author: William M. Geiger
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118642570
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 309
Book Description
Explores the latest advances and applications of specialty and electronic gas analysis The semiconductor industry depends upon a broad range of instrumental techniques in order to detect and analyze impurities that may be present in specialty and electronic gases, including permanent gases, water vapor, reaction by-products, and metal species. Trace Analysis of Specialty and Electronic Gases draws together all the latest advances in analytical chemistry, providing researchers with both the theory and the operating principles of the full spectrum of instrumental techniques available for specialty and electronic gas analysis. Moreover, the book details the advantages and disadvantages of each technique, steering readers away from common pitfalls. Featuring contributions from leading analytical and industrial chemists, Trace Analysis of Specialty and Electronic Gases covers a wide range of practical industrial applications. The book begins with the historical development of gas analysis and then focuses on particular subjects or techniques such as: Metals sampling and ICP-MS analysis Improvements in FTIR spectroscopy Water vapor analysis techniques New infrared laser absorption spectroscopy approaches GC/MS, GC/AED, and GC-ICP-MS techniques Gas chromatography columns Atmospheric pressure ionization mass spectrometry Lastly, the book examines gas mixtures and standards that are critical for instrument calibration. There are also two appendices offering information on fittings and material compatibility. With its thorough review of the literature and step-by-step guidance, Trace Analysis of Specialty and Electronic Gases enables researchers to take full advantage of the latest advances in gas analysis. Although the book's focus is the semiconductor and electronics industry, analytical chemists in other industries facing challenges with such issues as detection selectivity and sensitivity, matrix gas interference, and materials compatibility will also discover plenty of useful analytical approaches and techniques.
