Book Description
The role of the agricultural scientist is to manipulate crop and livestock response phenomena so that they serve society's needs better, enabling countries to obtain full benefit from their agricultural resources. By producing food more efficiently, resources can be made available for non-agricultural development and other needs beyond the essentials of food and fibre. This text provides an introductory outline of the analytical principles involved in appraising the efficiency of crop-fertilizer and livestock-feed response. It provides students of both agricultural science and economics with a simple but formal exposition of the why, how and wherefore of the principles of crop and livestock analysis, thereby helping to further co-operative effort among biological and economic researchers. The third edition has been updated and revised, with additions relating to the principles of modelling, the concept of economic duality as pertinent to response processes, the appraisal of aggregate response, and the economics of response research.

Book Description
This research topic centers on the practical application of game theory and optimization methods to address complex challenges in real-world contexts. At its core, game theory provides a framework for analyzing strategic interactions among rational decision-makers, while optimization techniques are designed to seek the most favorable outcomes. These tools have proven to be powerful assets across a wide range of domains, from economics and computer science to social sciences and engineering. The following objectives guide this exploration: (i) Understanding Game Theory and Optimization in Real-world Contexts: This objective involves investigating how these mathematical constructs are applied to model and resolve problems across various fields. (ii) Analyzing the Effectiveness of Game Theory and Optimization Techniques: This involves studying real-world case studies and practical applications with the goal of evaluating the performance and efficiency of these methods in practice. (iii) Identifying Potential Areas for Effective Application of Game Theory and Optimization: This objective aims to pinpoint sectors or disciplines that may significantly benefit from the application of these mathematical techniques. The goal of this Research Topic in Frontiers in Physics aims to produce a comprehensive understanding of the real-world applications of game theory and optimization, highlighting their practical impact and potential for future use. It will provide valuable insights for professionals and researchers working in the fields where these techniques can be applied and contribute to the body of knowledge in game theory and optimization. Potential topics include but are not limited to the following: 1. Economics and Business: How are game theory and optimization used to make strategic business decisions and to understand economic phenomena? 2. Computer Science: How do these techniques contribute to areas like network design, machine learning, and algorithm development? 3. Social Sciences: How can game theory and optimization help in understanding social dynamics, designing policies, and resolving conflicts? 4. Engineering and Operations Research: How are these techniques utilized in system design, process optimization, and decision-making?

Book Description
Chinese agriculture has experienced some radical changes over the past twenty years. Following the successful introduction of the household production system in the early 1980s, difficulties were encountered in establishing a unified domestic agricultural market in the later 1980s and 1990s. Through a comprehensive analysis of the changes in the Chinese agricultural institutions between the late 1970s and the mid-1990s, this study attempts to provide some answers to the main questions presently facing the agricultural sector. It focuses on the key elements of the pre-reform agricultural institutions, reviews the ways these institutions were refashioned and assesses the resulting changes in agricultural development. The implications of different policy choices are carefully considered with the assistance of a computable general equilibrium model. The author argues that China should push forward with its market-oriented reform measures and introduce the rigours of international competition into the agricultural sector.

Book Description
Game Theory through Examples is a thorough introduction to elementary game theory, covering finite games with complete information. The core philosophy underlying this volume is that abstract concepts are best learned when encountered first (and repeatedly) in concrete settings. Thus, the essential ideas of game theory are here presented in the context of actual games, real games much more complex and rich than the typical toy examples. All the fundamental ideas are here: Nash equilibria, backward induction, elementary probability, imperfect information, extensive and normal form, mixed and behavioral strategies. The active-learning, example-driven approach makes the text suitable for a course taught through problem solving. Students will be thoroughly engaged by the extensive classroom exercises, compelling homework problems, and nearly sixty projects in the text. Also available are approximately eighty Java applets and three dozen Excel spreadsheets in which students can play games and organize information in order to acquire a gut feeling to help in the analysis of the games. Mathematical exploration is a deep form of play; that maxim is embodied in this book. Game Theory through Examples is a lively introduction to this appealing theory. Assuming only high school prerequisites makes the volume especially suitable for a liberal arts or general education spirit-of-mathematics course. It could also serve as the active-learning supplement to a more abstract text in an upper-division game theory course.
