Book Description
This book offers an introduction to the theory of smooth manifolds, helping students to familiarize themselves with the tools they will need for mathematical research on smooth manifolds and differential geometry. The book primarily focuses on topics concerning differential manifolds, tangent spaces, multivariable differential calculus, topological properties of smooth manifolds, embedded submanifolds, Sard’s theorem and Whitney embedding theorem. It is clearly structured, amply illustrated and includes solved examples for all concepts discussed. Several difficult theorems have been broken into many lemmas and notes (equivalent to sub-lemmas) to enhance the readability of the book. Further, once a concept has been introduced, it reoccurs throughout the book to ensure comprehension. Rank theorem, a vital aspect of smooth manifolds theory, occurs in many manifestations, including rank theorem for Euclidean space and global rank theorem. Though primarily intended for graduate students of mathematics, the book will also prove useful for researchers. The prerequisites for this text have intentionally been kept to a minimum so that undergraduate students can also benefit from it. It is a cherished conviction that “mathematical proofs are the core of all mathematical joy,” a standpoint this book vividly reflects.

Book Description
The AMAST movement was initiated in 1989 with the First International C- ference on Algebraic Methodology and Software Technology (AMAST), held on May 21{23in Iowa City, Iowa, and aimed at setting the development of software technology on a mathematical basis. The virtue of the software technology en- sioned by AMAST is the capability to produce software that has the following properties: (a) it is correct and its correctness can be proved mathematically, (b) it is safe, such that it can be used in the implementation of critical systems, (c) it is portable, i. e. , it is independent of computing platforms and language generations, and (d) it is evolutionary, i. e. , it is self-adaptable and evolves with the problem domain. Ten years later a myriad of workshops, conferences, and researchprogramsthat sharethe goalsof the AMAST movementhaveoccurred. This can be taken as proof that the AMAST vision is right. However, often the myriad of workshops, conferences, and research programs lack the clear obj- tives and the coordination of their goals towards the software technology en- sioned by AMAST. This can be taken as a proof that AMAST is still necessary.

Multivalued Analysis and Nonlinear Programming Problems with Perturbations

Book Description
The book presents a treatment of topological and differential properties of multivalued mappings and marginal functions. In addition, applications to sensitivity analysis of nonlinear programming problems under perturbations are studied. Properties of marginal functions associated with optimization problems are analyzed under quite general constraints defined by means of multivalued mappings. A unified approach to directional differentiability of functions and multifunctions forms the base of the volume. Nonlinear programming problems involving quasidifferentiable functions are considered as well. A significant part of the results are based on theories and concepts of two former Soviet Union researchers, Demyanov and Rubinov, and have never been published in English before. It contains all the necessary information from multivalued analysis and does not require special knowledge, but assumes basic knowledge of calculus at an undergraduate level.

Book Description
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT FOR ON-DEMAND MISSION-CRITICAL INTERNET OF THINGS APPLICATIONS Discover an insightful and up-to-date treatment of resource management in Internet of Things technology In Resource Management for On-Demand Mission-Critical Internet of Things Applications, an expert team of engineers delivers an insightful analytical perspective on modeling and decision support for mission-critical Internet of Things applications. The authors dissect the complex IoT ecosystem and provide a cross-layer perspective on the design and operation of IoT, especially in the context of smart and connected communities. The book offers an economic perspective on resource management in IoT systems with a particular emphasis on three main areas: spectrum management via reservation, allocation of cloud/fog resources to IoT applications, and resource provisioning to smart city service requests. It leverages theories from dynamic mechanism design, optimal control theory, and spatial point processes, providing an overview of integrated decision-making frameworks. Finally, the authors discuss future directions and relevant problems on the economics of resource management from new perspectives, like security and resilience. Readers will also enjoy the inclusion of: A thorough introduction and overview of IoT applications in smart cities, mission critical IoT services and requirements, and key metrics and research challenges A comprehensive exploration of the allocation of spectrum resources to mission critical IoT applications, including the massive surge of IoT and spectrum scarcity problem Practical discussions of the provisioning of cloud/fog computing resources to IoT applications, including allocation policy In-depth examinations of resource provisioning to spatio-temporal service requests in smart cities Perfect for engineers working on Internet of Things and cyber-physical systems, Resource Management for On-Demand Mission-Critical Internet of Things Applications is also an indispensable reference for graduate students, researchers, and professors with an interest in IoT resource management.

Book Description
There is a strong case for electrical network topologists and submodular function theorists being aware of each other's fields.Presenting a topological approach to electrical network theory, this book demonstrates the strong links that exist between submodular functions and electrical networks. The book contains:• a detailed discussion of graphs, matroids, vector spaces and the algebra of generalized minors, relevant to network analysis (particularly to the construction of efficient circuit simulators)• a detailed discussion of submodular function theory in its own right; topics covered include, various operations, dualization, convolution and Dilworth truncation as well as the related notions of prinicpal partition and principal lattice of partitions. In order to make the book useful to a wide audience, the material on electrical networks and that on submodular functions is presented independently of each other. The hybrid rank problem, the bridge between (topological) electrical network theory and submodular functions, is covered in the final chapter. The emphasis in the book is on low complexity algorithms, particularly based on bipartite graphs. The book is intended for self-study and is recommended to designers of VLSI algorithms. More than 300 problems, almost all of them with solutions, are included at the end of each chapter.

Book Description
This book is an attempt to get to the bottom of an acute and perennial tension between our best scientific pictures of the fundamental physical structure of the world and our everyday empirical experience of it. The trouble is about the direction of time. The situation (very briefly) is that it is a consequence of almost every one of those fundamental scientific pictures--and that it is at the same time radically at odds with our common sense--that whatever can happen can just as naturally happen backwards. Albert provides an unprecedentedly clear, lively, and systematic new account--in the context of a Newtonian-Mechanical picture of the world--of the ultimate origins of the statistical regularities we see around us, of the temporal irreversibility of the Second Law of Thermodynamics, of the asymmetries in our epistemic access to the past and the future, and of our conviction that by acting now we can affect the future but not the past. Then, in the final section of the book, he generalizes the Newtonian picture to the quantum-mechanical case and (most interestingly) suggests a very deep potential connection between the problem of the direction of time and the quantum-mechanical measurement problem. The book aims to be both an original contribution to the present scientific and philosophical understanding of these matters at the most advanced level, and something in the nature of an elementary textbook on the subject accessible to interested high-school students.
