Book Description
Who are we? What are poems and stories? Can their messages touch us so deeply that we are transformed like The Ugly Duckling transforms into the magnificent swan it was all along? These are some of the questions that are at the heart of this book of poems, prose pieces and letters from two decades of Diana's writing life. It is a collection of work filled with imagery, insights, intimacy and emotion. From Pen (elope) with love takes us to the centre of the human heart and invites us to dance with our humanness, our vulnerabilities, our passions, our childlike wonder and delight, all the while, heading in the direction of our true home. This book will speak to anyone who is on the path of self-discovery and spiritual awakening. It is also for fellow writers and poets seeking nourishment, encouragement, and company on the journey.

Book Description
Penelope’s big-city dreams aren’t turning out exactly as she planned. When she moved away from her family and their small business, she envisioned a life creating fantastical events and taking advantage of all the things New York has to offer. She certainly didn’t see herself making collection calls and being yelled at all day, but she has to do something to pay the rent. She has one good friend at the office, Stella, and they come to the realization that in order for them to make their fantasies a reality, they must take their futures into their own hands. They make a pact that they will get out of this dead-end job and finally strike out to their desired careers. On that same day, Penny has a chance encounter with a kind man and woman on the subway—a couple she has admired on her daily, monotonous commute because they express so much love and affection for one another. She chases after them when they leave an item on the subway car, and in return, they invite her for dinner, which turns into offers of so much more. A career, a chance at love, and an opportunity to show her true self to the world. But is Penny brave enough to step out of the darkness and into the light?

Book Description
Looking at travel writing by British women from the seventeenth century on, Karen R. Lawrence asks an intriguing question: What happens when, instead of waiting patiently for Odysseus, Penelope voyages and records her journey—when the woman who is expected to waitsets forth herself and traces an itinerary of her own? Lawrence ranges widely, discussing both fiction and nonfiction and traversing the genres of travel letters, realistic and sentimental novels, ethnography, fantasy, and postmodern narrative. In examining works as dissimilar as Margaret Cavendish's rendition of the Renaissance adventure narrative and Christine Brooke-Rose's postmodernist Between, she explores not only the significance of gender for travel writing, but also the value of travel itself for testing the limits of women's social freedoms and restraints. Lawrence shows how writings by Frances Burney, Mary Wollstonecraft, Sarah Lee, Mary Kingsley, Virginia Woolf, and Brigid Brophy reconceive the meanings of femininity in relation to such apparent oppositions as travel/home, other/self, and foreign/domestic. Despite the differences-historical, generic, political-among these writers, Lawrence maintains, they share common insights. Their accounts overturn the dichotomy between adventure and domesticity, demonstrating something illusory within both the stability of home and the freedom of travel.

Book Description
Michael Ewans explores how classical Greek tragedy and epic poetry have been appropriated in opera, through eight selected case studies. These range from Monteverdi's Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, drawn from Homer's Odyssey, to Mark-Antony Turnage's Greek, based on Sophocles's Oedipus the King. Choices have been based on an understanding that the relationship between each of the operas and their Greek source texts raise significant issues, involving an examination of the process by which the librettist creates a new text for the opera, and the crucial insights into the nature of the drama that are bestowed by the composer's musical setting. Ewans examines the issues through a comparative analysis of significant divergences of plot, character and dramatic strategy between source text, libretto and opera.
