I Am My Father's Son
Author: Frederick Douglas Jr.
Publisher: AuthorHouse
ISBN: 1524618187
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 188
Book Description
This is a true story based on the collection of information from U.S. Army documents, my father, Sgt. Frederick Douglas Sr., Captain James Gill (Referred to as my uncle), and 6 other soldiers that were involved in the unauthorized mission to recover me from a Japanese black market baby ring. Army documents that my father had were also used to put together approximate timelines and fill in gaps of what might have happened during certain times where my father or uncle couldnt quite remember clearly. Some of the conversations in this story are assumptions of what might have been spoken as well as recollections from my father, uncle and a couple of men that were involved in my rescue. My father served 22 years in the U. S. Army with tours of duty in what are now Okinawa, Japan, Korea, and Viet Nam. My uncle served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and as fate would have it, he was stationed with my father in Okinawa at Naha and Kadena Air Base between the years of 1962-1967. My father had just completed a tour of duty in Korea (3/1961-1/1962) and was being furloughed to Okinawa for a couple of months off until his next tour. It was during January of 1962 when my uncle had just arrived from the United States and was assigned between Naha Air Base and Kadena Air Force Base in charge of air tactical recon and surveillance. Actual names are used in this story for the exception of the Colonel, which I changed his name due to my fathers oath of keeping him protected. What you are about to read is a fathers struggle and perseverance to find his son at all cost and risk, which was a mini-war in itself.

Quest: Finding Freddie
Author: Thomas Richard Spradlin
Publisher: Dorrance Publishing
ISBN:
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 254
Book Description
Quest: Finding Freddie By: Thomas Richard Spradlin About the Book Quest: Finding Freddie is the narrative of a case that Richard Spradlin had in 1976 as a General Partner in the Washington, D. C., law firm of Clifford & Warnke. It concerns the search for one of his firm's clients (known to his wife and friends as "Freddie") who had suddenly "gone missing" in Lagos, Nigeria. A devout Jew, Freddie had simply disappeared on Saturday, August 14, 1976 (the Jewish Sabbath) while on a business trip to Nigeria. His disappearance was particularly disturbing since it occurred not long after the June 27, 1976 rescue by Israel Defense Forces of hostages being held by terrorists at the Entebbe airport in Uganda. As spectacular and heroic as the Entebbe rescue mission had been, it had caused extreme embarrassment for Uganda's President, Idi Amin Dada Oumee, who was also serving at the time as Chairman of the Organization of African Unity (OAU). In Nigeria, the political situation was even more uncertain due to tensions following an attempted military coup which had taken place on February 13, 1976. Although that coup failed, it nonetheless had resulted in the assassination of Nigeria's Head of State, General Murtala Rufai Ramat Muhammed. It was against this background that Spradlin was sent by his law firm on the quest to find Freddie.

Something New
Author: P. G. Wodehouse
Publisher: Graphic Arts Books
ISBN: 1513275720
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 164
Book Description
Introducing some of P.G Wodehouse’s adored reoccurring characters and settings, Something New marks the beginning of the adventures at Blanding Castle. When Freddie and Aline get engaged, both are happy with the arrangement. Both from wealthy and prominent families, the engagement ensures them a higher social status. However, Freddie becomes paranoid that old letters he sent to an ex would endanger the engagement if unearthed. Desperate, Freddie hires a shady fixer to recover the letters. Meanwhile, J. Preston Peters, an American billionaire and Aline’s father, invites Freddie’s father, the Earl of Emsworth, to visit his home. There, the two men make small talk while Peters attempts to impress Emsworth with his vast beetle collection. But passive-aggressive conflict arises when Emsworth accidently slips Peters’ most prized beetle in his pocket, unintentionally stealing it. Though Peters suspects the other man, he is reluctant to confront him, in fears that it would threaten their children’s relationship. Instead, he advertises a reward for its return, inspiring a group of greedy thieves to find the beetle for themselves. With battling fathers, a group of thieves, a shady fixer, and a missing beetle, Aline and Freddie struggle to preserve their engagement. Considered to be one of P.G Wodehouse’s best works, Something New is a comic caricature of aristocratic life. Originally published in Great Britain in 1915, the novel earned such impressive commercial success that it was reprinted for American audiences as well with minor changes to appeal to the demographic. With amusing and lovable characters, Something New delivers a light-hearted but exciting narrative that keeps audiences entertained even over one-hundred years after its first publication. Now presented in a stylish, easy-to-read font and with a fun, eye-catching cover design, this edition of Something New by P.G Wodehouse is catered to accommodate modern readers.

A Fairytale or Not

Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 134
Book Description
Many a year has past since the day of my birth suffice to say that I am as old as my heart and as young as the winter snow. Odd that I should mention the winter for it was the season that I entered this world and it is my favourite. I love the magic of the season and the good will of the human spirit. It has always been this way with me and I shall never differ. My life differs none other that yours excepting perhaps that I have witnessed many a phenomenon. For example, spirits of the dead have visited and spoken with me. I have stood in my garden at night and watched unidentified flying objects cross the sky and disappear in the blinking of an eye. Moreover, yes. I have even seen a fairy. I live deep in the countryside and often feel the magic of the fairy folk around me. Not to long ago, I found myself driving down the long narrow road that eventually leads to my home. I was half a mile from my property and travelling at approximately 25 miles per hour. I have to pass a small coppice at the side of the road that boasts a mound in its centre. Perhaps it was from out of this mound that a little man appeared, I cannot say. However, of a sudden, a little man with beautiful transparent wings attached to his back, flew across my window screen. I must admit that these sightings are so very rare and that to witness such a sight is magnificent indeed. It has never accorded me to put my experiences to paper. However, after my last encounter with some very odd creatures, I have decided to give record of a few. My reason for this is that after you have read these few examples, perhaps you would care to read some of the following tales that I have accumulated over a period of many years....

This book is a continuation of the book 'NOWHERE STREET', a story about Frankie Goushen, a young boy's early life in the cafes and dives of Cable Street in the 50's, in London's East-End. Nowhere Street tells of his time spent in an Approved School, of the bullying and spite which went on at the time. This book continues the story of Frankie's life, when he becomes involved with the Gangsters of the East-End. It depicts the times of the late 50's and the early 60's, of his fight to survive and the time spent in the different Prisons, Borstals and Institutions of the day. This is a tough book of hurt and pain, though through the dirt and the grime shines the light of social history and what was seen as normal in those days. While the tale is gritty and the words not for those with a softer disposition, the story can only be told to its strength and much is based on my earlier life.Ron S King.
