Nous avons réalisé une étude rétropective sur 84 patients déments hospitalisés pour une fracture de l'extrémité supérieure du fémur. Ils ont bénéficié d'un traitement chirurgical puis d'une prise en charge dans le service de Soins de Suite et de Réadaptation Gériatrique de l'hôpital de Pau. Nous nous sommes intéressés à l'évolution de ces patients pour déterminer quels sont les facteurs prédictifs de la réautonomisation. Dans notre étude, 68% des sujets sont très dépendants avec un GIR à 1 ou 2. Seulement 39% d'entre eux récupèrent leur niveau de marche antérieure. Par ailleurs, le taux d'institutionnalisation est de 38%. L'analyse univariée a montré que l'âge élévé, une grande dépendance pour les activités quotidiennes, la survenue d'un syndrome confusionnel ainsi que l'aggravation des troubles du comportement et l'apparition de complications cardiaques, infectieuses, thromboemboliques pendant l'hospitalisation sont des facteurs péjoratifs. Par contre, la déambulation favorise une bonne récupération pour la marche.
