Book Description
Cooperation among systems has gained substantial importance in recent years: electronic commerce virtual enterprises and the middleware paradigm are just some examples in this area. CoopIS is a multi-disciplinary conference, which deals with all aspects of cooperation. The relevant disciplines are: collaborative work, distributed databases, distributed computing, electronic commerce, human-computer interaction, multi-agent systems, information retrieval, and workflow systems. The CoopIS series provides a forum for well-known researchers who are drawn by the stature and the tradition of these conference series and has a leading role in shaping the future of the cooperative information systems area. CoopIS 2000 is the seventh conference in the series and the fifth conference organized by the International Foundation on Cooperative Information Systems (IFCIS). It is sponsored by the IFCIS, the IBM Research Laboratory in Haifa and Compaq, Tandem labs Israel. It replaces the former international workshops on Interoperability in Multidatabase systems (IMS) and the conference series on Cooperative Information Systems (CoopIS & ICICIS). In response to the call for papers 74 papers were submitted. Each of them was reviewed by at least three reviewers, and at the end of this process 24 papers were accepted for presentation at the conference. Six additional papers were selected for short presentations. In addition the conference includes two panels, two keynote speakers (Professor Calton Pu from Georgia Tech and Professor Sheizaf Rafaeli from Haifa University) and one tutorial. A special issue of the International Journal of Cooperative Information Systems will follow. August 2000 Opher Etzion & Peter Scheuermann

Book Description
Ubiquitous computing is coming of age. In the few short years of the lifetime of this conference, we have seen major changes in our emerging research community. When the conference started in 1999, as Handheld and Ubiquitous Computing, the field was still in its formative stage. In 2002, we see the Ubicomp conference (the name was shortened last year) emerging as an established player attracting research submissions of very high quality from all over the world. Virtually all major research centers and universities now have research programs broadly in the field of ubiquitous computing. Whether we choose to call it ubiquitous, pervasive, invisible, disappearing, embodied, or some other variant of computing, it is clear that Mark Weiser’s original vision has only become more and more relevant since the term was coined over 10 years ago. But, most important in our context, the interest in the field can be gauged from the rising number of full paper submissions to the conference: from about 70 in both 1999 and 2000, to 90 in 2001, to this year's record breaking 136! Counting technical notes, workshops, poster and video submissions, there were over 250 original works submitted to this year’s conference. This is an impressive effort by the research community, and we are grateful to everyone who took time to submit their work – without this, the conference would simply not exist.

Book Description
Pervasive systems, due to inexpensive wireless technology can now be implemented easily and local and network advanced applications can be joined anytime simply by using a mobile terminal (cell phone, PDA, smartphone etc.) Pervasive systems free people from conventional interaction with desktop and laptop computers thereby allowing a new human-environment interaction to take place on the basis of wireless multimedia communication.Addressing the theoretical fundamentals of pervasive systems as they are studied and developed in the major research laboratories, Pervasive Systems and Ubiquitous Computing is aimed at MSc and PhD engineering students

Book Description
This book presents the thoroughly refereed joint post-proceedings of three workshops held during the 17th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling, ER '98, in Singapore in November 1998. The 50 revised papers presented have gone through two rounds of reviewing and revision. The book is divided in sections on knowledge discovery, data mining, data and web warehousing, multidimensional databases, data warehouse design, caching, data dissemination, replication, mobile networks, mobile platforms, tracking and monitoring, collaborative work support, temporal data modelling, moving objects and spatial indexing, spatio-temporal databases, and video database contents.
