This follows as a general conclusion from all that has thus far been said and shown: as, that the Word is the Divine Truth itself (n. 1-4); the Word is the medium of conjunction with the angels of heaven (n. 62-69), there is everywhere in the Word the marriage of the Lord and the church, and hence the marriage of good and truth (n. 80-89), the church is such in quality as its understanding of the Word is (n. 76-79); the Word is also in the heavens, and from it the angels have their wisdom (n. 70-75); the nations and peoples out of the church, also, have spiritual light by means of the Word (n. 104113); and much more besides. From which it may be concluded that without the Word no one would have spiritual intelligence, which is, to have a knowledge of God, of heaven and hell, and of the life after death; and would know nothing at all of the Lord, of faith in Him and love to Him; and thus nothing concerning redemption, by' which nevertheless is salvation. The Lord also says to His disciples, Without Me ye can do nothing (John xv. 5); and John said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven (John iii. 27). 115.
