Book Description
This book highlights some contemporary issues related to Sabah’s economic growth, including socio-economic, labour and human capital. These issues are linked to relevant economic and growth theory approaches. Critical issues on the challenges in the development and the way forward to realise government policies such as the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC), the National Key Economic Area (NKEA) and the implementation of zakat to eradicate poverty will also be discussed. Economic development for Sabah is essential and is an ongoing effort to ensure that Sabah can compete in a gradually competitive economy. Implementing sound economic policies is vital in improving the social well-being and standard of living in the state. This book also explores socio- economic issues involving various ethnic groups in Sabah, especially improving human capital and infrastructure investment. The author identified that these elements are the key contributors and enablers to Sabah’s economic growth. Thus, economic growth and development are consistent agendas to ensure future generations can live comfortably in a conducive economic environment. Hence, this book re-emphasises the importance of knowledge workers in preparing the Industrial Revolution 4.0. The author also recommends that Sabah’s further economic development be attained through rigorous efforts from strong cooperation of state and federal government and firms, private sectors, industries, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the people. The development can be realised through investment and innovation. This book is significant to academics, students, policymakers, and community in increasing awareness of the importance of labour, human capital and economic development in Sabah. While adding to existing literature, this book can also be an additional reference about Sabah’s key economic characteristics and labour market.

Book Description
The Technical and Trades Training Institute (ILTP) in Papar, managed by MRD&IT is currently offering Technical and Vocational Education, and Training (TET) courses accredited by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) at levels 1 and 2. The main purpose of the study was to assist Sabah State Government through the Ministry of Resource Development and Information Technology to make recommendations for future upgrading of TET programmes accredited by JPK conducted by Technical and Trades Training Institute (ILTP) in Papar to higher levels, namely levels 3, 4 and 5. The study employed a mixed-method approach, making use of cross-sectional data obtained from secondary sources as well as from empirical findings. It is found that JPSM's vision and mission statements synchronised well with the federal and state human resource development objectives. However, it is recommended that JPSM translates these vision and mission statements into operational and tangible terms so that they could be understood and implemented at all levels in JPSM and TET partners.

Book Description
Holistic Development And Security For Esszone Editors : Diana Peters, Jennifer Chan Kim Lian, Gusni Saat, Ebentin Estim, Martin A. Sebastian. This book is an attempt to contextualise the issues occurring in this part of the region which is not only solely constrained by security in the traditional sense, but also to ensure the livelihoods of citizens are being protected. The four pillars for a holistic approach identified in this book are based on the inputs by stakeholders in four workshops organised in throughout 2016, under the same theme. It is realised that the challenges to the security of Eastern Sabah has many faces – piracy, illicit trafficking, and kidnappings – and these challenges are evolving. As such, an all-encompassing solution is needed.

Book Description
Asia continues to ascend as an economic powerhouse and a strategic priority for business leaders around the world, yet there is often limited understanding of the human capital systems that fuel the economic engines of the region. This book brings together the perspectives from economics, sociology, and management to highlight the business implications of human capital development in Asia. This book provides new insights on human capital systems in Asia by considering the country context through a 'Human Capital Ecosystem' framework. Applying this framework, constituent outline, and comparable points across each of the countries in Asia, Smith translates national policies into insights on the drivers, challenges, and opportunities in individual countries. Each chapter also draws out clear business and HR implications based on the above framework and analysis. While Asia continues to be a critical priority for businesses, there is limited understanding on how to manage and navigate the human capital systems in each of the region’s diverse countries. This book will serve as a helpful reference for managers or supplemental study guide for graduate students working to understand how to execute business strategy in major economies of Asia.

Book Description
This important book builds on recent publications in lifelong learning which focus on learning and education in later life. This work breaks new ground in international understandings of what constitutes later life learning across diverse cultures in manifold countries or regions across the world. Containing 42 separate country/regional analyses of later life learning, the overall significance resides in insiders’ conceptualisations and critique of this emerging sub-field of lifelong learning and adult education. International perspectives on older adult education provides new appreciation of what is happening in countries from Europe (14), Africa (10), the Americas (7), Asia (9) and Australasia (2), as authored by adult educators and/or social gerontologists in respective geographical areas. These analyses are contextualised by a thorough introduction and critical appraisal where trends and fresh insights are revealed. The outcome of this book is a never-before available critique of what it means to be an older learner in specific nations, and the accompanying opportunities and barriers for learning and education. The sub-title of research, policy and practice conveys the territory that authors traverse in which rhetoric and reality are interrogated. Coverage in chapters includes conceptual analysis, historical patterns of provision, policy developments, theoretical perspectives, research studies, challenges faced by countries and “success stories” of later life learning. The resultant effect is a vivid portrayal of a vast array of learning that occurs in later life across the globe. Brian Findsen is Professor of Education and Postgraduate Leader for Te Whiringa School of Educational Leadership and Policy, Faculty of Education, University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand. Marvin Formosa is Head of the Department of Gerontology, Faculty for Social Wellbeing, University of Malta, and Director of the International Institute on Ageing (United Nations - Malta).
