Book Description
A groundbreaking guide to flower flies in North America This is the first comprehensive field guide to the flower flies (also known as hover flies) of northeastern North America. Flower flies are, along with bees, our most important pollinators. Found in a varied range of habitats, from backyard gardens to aquatic ecosystems, these flies are often overlooked because many of their species mimic bees or wasps. Despite this, many species are distinctive and even subtly differentiated species can be accurately identified. This handy and informative guide teaches you how. With more than 3,000 color photographs and 400 maps, this guide covers all 416 species of flower flies that occur north of Tennessee and east of the Dakotas, including the high Arctic and Greenland. Each species account provides information on size, identification, abundance, and flight time, along with notes on behavior, classification, hybridization, habitats, larvae, and more. Summarizing the current scientific understanding of our flower fly fauna, this is an indispensable resource for anyone, amateur naturalist or scientist, interested in discovering the beauty of these insects. · 3000+ color photos (field and museum shots) · Multiple images per species, with arrows highlighting key field marks · Grayscale images showing the actual size of the insect · Range maps for each species · Information on size, identification features, abundance, flight times, and more

Book Description
Through the years I have had the privilege of knowing some wonderful dogs and cats, bunnies and hamsters, goldfish, birds, cows, horses, ducks, chickens and pigs. This book started out as stories for my grandchildren, and when it was suggested that others might enjoy reading it the idea took hold, and 'Fur, Feathers and Fins' became a reality. All of the stories are true. Some may be hard to believe, some will make you laugh, while others may make you cry. If you've ever shared your life with a pet you know the joy they can bring to you, and if you've never had a pet, I hope you enjoy reading about mine. I have enjoyed writing about them, remembering each one, and shedding a few tears along the way. If you decide that you want to bring a fur friend into your family, please go to the local animal shelter and give a precious kitten, puppy, dog, or cat the forever home they so deserve....

Book Description
Volume II After the mayfly family, detailed in Nymphs: The Mayflies, the fly fisher must know the caddisfly, stonefly, and midge populations just as well to catch trout that are keyed in on such insects. Nymphs: Caddisflies, Stoneflies, and Other Important Species gives the reader all the essential information about identifying individual species of these insects throughout their North American range, and then delves into detailed instructions for scores of artificial patterns to imitate them. Few books in fishing literature have focused so closely on so many individual species of the particular genera of aquatic insects in this volume. And just as in Nymphs: The Mayflies, this book contains numerous stories and anecdotes from Schwiebert's travels that illuminate the selection and use of nymph patterns, and recount great days spent on the water as interpreted through one of the great minds of modern fly fishing.

Book Description
When children are growing up they are not interested in family history. If I should bring the subject up the answer would usually be, “I know Dad, when you were young you milked ten cows before breakfast and walked ten miles to school – in the snow!”. It wasn’t that they didn’t care they were not interested. However, when they married and had children of their own they wanted to know more of the family history so they could pass it on to their children. “Dad, we don’t know anything about your family history, fill us in.” Now they were interested. That started me to thinking. I didn’t know much about my family tree. I would give anything to know more about my parent’s background and everyday life when they were growing up, guess I never asked! It occurred to me if I started writing a few facts about myself, in two or three generations future grandchildren would know. People who have read my story have said it has given them the idea to do the same for their children. One of the many reasons for writing Flowers For Cina, is to encourage parents to write about their everyday life.
