The National Housing Study was undertaken to provide timely and accurate data on current housing conditions and on the nature and extent of home renovation activity in 1985 for a representative sample of existing low rise housing in Canada. This survey provided information in three key areas to be used in subsequent analyses: occupant/owner perceptions of the condition of their property; renovation work done in 1985; and the socio-economic characteristics and building operating costs of publicly-assisted renovators, non-assisted renovators, and non-renovators. The National Housing study was a survey of homeowners, tenants and landlords of privately-owned dwellings of four stories or less.
