No faltan mentes "bien pensantes" que acusan a la Teología de la Liberación de inspirarse en ideologías excesivamente "inmanentes" y hasta hostiles a toda transcendencia: de ser una falsa teología carente de espiritualidad. Sin embargo, los movimientos y prácticas de la Liberacion y la misma Teología de la Liberacion tienen su raís y su crédito en algo anterior a ellos mismos: la rica experiencia espiritual que palpita en el continente latinoamericano. Los rasgos de esa espiritualidad no pueden ser tan "originales" que se aparten de la auténtica espiritualidad cristiana de siempre: uno solo es el Espíritu en toda hora y en todo lugar: pero sí son diferentes, porque ubican la (única) espiritualidad cristiana en una hora y en un lugar diferentes. Para responder a los signos de un tiempo de cautiverio y de liberación, esos rasgos han de hacerse explícita y eficazmente liberadores: y para responder a los signos del lugar que se llama "América Latina", han de tornarse latinoamericanos. El aliento poético -en el más estricto sentido del término: poesía como actividad incansable- de Pedro Casaldáliga y la cabeza, el corazón y la "aragonesa y tozuda laboriosidad" de José Ma Vigil han producido una obra que quiere ser una fraterna lectura espiritual compartida: una introducción a otros libros mayores y a otras búsquedas: un eco emocionado a tanta espiritualidad latinoamericana (y caribeña) vivida -hoy sobre todo, pero también ayer- por tantos santos y santas anónimos, tantos profetas y mártires y tantas comunidades cristianas que se esfuerzan en revivir latinoamericanamente la hermosura evangélica y los rasgos crucificados (y la alegría pascual) de los Hechos de los Apóstoles.
