Book Description
Results of this study indicated that familial (perceived authoritative fathering), individual (conscientiousness), and social-cognitive processes (informational and diffuse-avoidant identity styles) predicted career decision self-efficacy and contextual processes (peer controlling behaviors in career decisions) moderated the relationship between perceived permissive mothering and career decision self-efficacy. These results show that Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory of human development, Buri's perceived parenting styles framework, and social cognitive career theory provided useful insights for identifying variables related to career decision self-efficacy. However, the small amount of variance accounted for in this study tells us that more research is needed to identify other variables that contribute to the prediction of career decision self-efficacy.
