Broken Compass
Author: Jo Raven
Publisher: Jo Raven
ISBN:
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 499
Book Description
What if you were in love not just with one, not just with two, but with three hot guys? And what if they wanted you back? There are three of them. Three boys. We’re friends. Neighbors. Our lives are linked through disaster, fear and pain. I love them all. Not sure I can live without them. Can we just stay friends? Can we ignore the desire flaring when we’re around each other? Can I kiss one and not the other? I can’t choose. Don’t want to choose. And I’m not sure they can, either. This story will either end up in heartache, or as any story should: in a happy ending. Love is not a road. It’s a country. A sprawling galaxy. Love has no compass. No rules. No limits. Love is a universe. Lose yourself in it.

Book Description
'A RIVETING EMOTIONAL READ THAT KEPT ME ON THE EDGE!' -- Melissa Marr, author of the bestselling Wicked Lovely series, on The Darkest Minds Ruby can't look back. Fractured by an unbearable loss, she and the kids who survived the government's attack on Los Angeles travel north to regroup. With them is a prisoner: Clancy Gray, son of the president, and one of the few people Ruby has encountered with abilities like hers. Only Ruby has any power over him, and just one slip could lead to Clancy wreaking havoc on their minds. They are armed only with a volatile secret: proof of a government conspiracy to cover up the real cause of IANN, the disease that has killed most of America's children and left Ruby and others like her with powers the government will kill to keep contained. But internal strife may destroy their only chance to free the "rehabilitation camps" housing thousands of other Psi kids. Meanwhile, reunited with Liam, the boy she would - and did - sacrifice everything for to keep alive, Ruby must face the painful repercussions of having tampered with his memories of her. She turns to Cole, his older brother, to provide the intense training she knows she will need to take down Gray and the government. But Cole has demons of his own, and one fatal mistake may be the spark that sets the world on fire. The third book in the NYT bestselling series, that is soon to become a major motion picture. MORE PRAISE FOR THE DARKEST MINDS 'The story's quick-paced action leads to a heartbreaking cliffhanger that will have readers eager for the next book ...' -- Publishers Weekly 'Haunting ... Bracken creates a gripping and terrifying dystopian world.' -- Kirkus Reviews 'HELL TO THE YES, I love this story and these characters so much!!' -- Goodreads review 'THE DARKEST MINDS was, without a doubt, one of the best books I have read!' -- Goodreads review

Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 388
Book Description
A victim no one can identify – in a town full of secrets... Rusty Macduff, private detective, learnt his trade in London when Victoria was on the throne and the first consulting detectives were on the streets, hunting down the sort of criminal who seemed to have stepped from the pages of a halfpenny comic. Now he’s stuck in the country with a war wound, only able to take on the cases everyone else turns down. A man has been found murdered in a locked alleyway in an ordinary market town. The criminals of old London were bad but tended to leave a trail of clues. A criminal like the one he is now dealing with didn’t even have the decency to leave the clue of a relatively intact victim. But a niche is a niche. Rusty has a whole range of techniques to get him through this sort of case – and he’ll need them and more. Something very bad is happening in a town where nothing is as it seems – and Rusty might not have long before the killer strikes again... + + + The Rusty Macduff mysteries are addictive laugh-out-loud golden age detective thrillers for those who like their crime quirky– loved by fans of Edmund Crispin and P. G. Wodehouse.

Darke Hierogliphicks
Author: Stanton J. Linden
Publisher: University Press of Kentucky
ISBN: 0813182875
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 580
Book Description
The literary influence of alchemy and hermeticism in the work of most medieval and early modern authors has been overlooked. Stanton Linden now provides the first comprehensive examination of this influence on English literature from the late Middle Ages through the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Drawing extensively on alchemical allusions as well as on the practical and theoretical background of the art and its pictorial tradition, Linden demonstrates the pervasiveness of interest in alchemy during this three-hundred-year period. Most writers—including Langland, Gower, Barclay, Eramus, Sidney, Greene, Lyly, and Shakespeare—were familiar with alchemy, and references to it appear in a wide range of genres. Yet the purposes it served in literature from Chaucer through Jonson were narrowly satirical. In literature of the seventeenth century, especially in the poetry of Donne, Herbert, Vaughan, and Milton, the functions of alchemy changed. Focusing on Bacon, Donne, Herbert, Vaughan, and Milton—in addition to Jonson and Butler—Linden demonstrates the emergence of new attitudes and innovative themes, motifs, images, and ideas. The use of alchemy to suggest spiritual growth and change, purification, regeneration, and millenarian ideas reflected important new emphases in alchemical, medical, and occultist writing. This new tradition did not continue, however, and Butler's return to satire was contextualized in the antagonism of the Royal Society and religious Latitudinarians to philosophical enthusiasm and the occult. Butler, like Shadwell and Swift, expanded the range of satirical victims to include experimental scientists as well as occult charlatans. The literary uses of alchemy thus reveal the changing intellectual milieus of three centuries.
