Book Description
A combination of scrapbook, commonplace book, and diary, Cornelia Wells Walter used this volume as a repository for newspaper clippings, copied passages, letters, and the recording of a few current events, the bulk of which date from approximately 1839 to 1855. Primarily, the volume contains clippings, mostly from the Transcript, of poetry, prose, and news articles of a political, religious or social nature, some written by Miss Walter herself. A few items pertain to the Mount Vernon Review, a manuscript journal composed by some young ladies of Boston, including Ednah Dow Cheney (1824-1904). The collection serves to illustrate the talents and tastes of a remarkable literary figure of mid-19th century Boston.
