Book Description
During 1977 and 1978 the Meiron Excavation Project moved north from its excavations at Khirbet Shema and Meiron, excavating at the site of the synagogue at Gush Halav. With only very limited areas available for excavation, the team nevertheless was able to extract significant information for the history of Galilean synagogues. The synagogue here had a unique form, with spatial elements that have few if any parallels elsewhere. This publication will thus be of great importance for the history of Galilee in the first millennium C.E. and for the development of synagogue architecture and its relationship to the culture of the region in general.

Book Description
The excavations conducted in Tiberias from 1989 to 1994 focused on two main sites within the boundaries of the ancient city. Part one of this excavation report deals with the first site - that in the area of the Sewage Processing Plant at the foot of Mount Berenice, 200m west of the Sea of Galilee. Excavations in Jerusalem, 1961-1967
Author: A. D. Tushingham
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 646
Book Description
"The publication of the final reports of the late Dame Kathleen Kenyon's excavations of ancient Jerusalem takes a significant step forward with the appearance of this volume. It concentrates on finds outside the walls of the Iron Age city, of which the most important are the enigmatic deposits in Caves I and II on the south-east hill. Itzhak Eshel's study provides a thorough comparative analysis of the large quantity of pottery found in them, as a basis for establishing their date and purpose. Supplementary studies of the pottery and other material from these caves, not least variations between the deposits found in them, throw further light on their function." "Among the varied information on extramural cemeteries assembled here, the late third millennium cemetery on the Mount of Olives, first discovered over a century ago, particularly adds to our knowledge of Jerusalem in antiquity."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
