Macroeconomics, Second Edition, Volume I
Author: David G. Tuerck
Publisher: Business Expert Press
ISBN: 1947098772
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 156
Book Description
This book, produced in two volumes, takes an integrative approach to the study of macroeconomics. In that respect, the book brings the different strands of macroeconomics together into a single approach under which economic agents strive to make rational choices but, while doing so, sometimes misconstrue the data available to them. The result is imbalances between aggregate supply and aggregate demand that can cause economic contractions. These imbalances may be self-correcting, or they may become long-lived and require government intervention through the exercise of corrective monetary and fiscal policy. Volume I examines economic behavior on the assumption that economic agents correctly interpret the data before them. It thus takes a “micro foundations” approach, under which aggregate supply equals aggregate demand. Volume II allows for the possibility of myopia on the part of economic agents and for the resulting economic malperformance that can result from this myopia. It examines the short-run disparities between aggregate supply and aggregate demand that can result from ill-informed choices of individual economic agents or from a misdiagnosis of economic data by policy makers. It concludes with a review of recent U.S. economic policy. The book aims to correct a good number of misconceptions that bedevil economic policymaking—among them the idea that protracted economic contractions necessarily call for increased government spending and lower taxes. It challenges the common understanding that government deficits raise interest rates and “crowd out” private investment.

Jealous, Martha holds Thom to ransom over the business's future. Bewildered by this unexpected battle of wills, Thom struggles to keep his inner demons at bay. After a lifetime of successfully suppressing his dark side, however, Martha's jealousy causes him to erupt. Thom's devious and manipulative attempts to remove those who stand in the way of his marriage to Evelyn may threaten the happy future she wants with him. Canadian Annual Review of Politics and Public Affairs 2002
Author: David Mutimer

ISBN: 0802098193
Category : Political Science

Pages : 337
Book Description
"Both at home and abroad, the events of 2002 contrasted significantly with those of the previous year, something for which most Canadians could be extremely grateful. To no ones surprise, however, the year was dominated by the issues that had captivated the worlds attention at the end of 2001: the attacks on the United States and the subsequent war on terror declared by the Bush Administration. Canada had chosen to stand shoulder to shoulder with its southern neighbour in response to those attacks, and in 2002 the meaning of that commitment became clear as Canada entered into full-scale combat operations in Afghanistan, suffered its first casualties, and ended the year torn over whether to follow the United States should it choose to take its war to Iraq.On the home front, a battle of an altogether different magnitude reached a turning point with the seeming resolution of the long-running struggle between Prime Minister Jean Chrtien and Minister of Finance Paul Martin even though, by years end, it was by no means clear who had actually won. Similarly, a number of the consequences of the 9/11 attacks remained unresolved. Bill C-17 had not been passed; Ottawa software engineer, Maher Arar languished in a Syrian jail where he had been sent by the United States; and the war drums were beating loudly around Iraq. Continuing in the standard for which it has been acclaimed, the Canadian Annual Review of Politics and Public Affairs 2002 presents detailed analyses of events that have come to define our nation in recent years."
