Book Description
The program determined the effect of several Ti-3Al-2.5V hydraulic tubing manufacturing techniques and common tubing defects on rotary flexure fatigue life of the tubing. Test results showed cold worked and stress relieved 105 ksi minimum tensile yield strength tubing and annealed 70 ksi minimum tensile yield strength tubing have approximately the same fatigue life. It was shown that belt sanding the tubing outer surface and then pickling both the inside and outside surfaces was the best surface preparation method evaluated. Grit blasting of the tubing inner surface or glass bead peening of the tubing outer surface offered no improvement in fatigue life and in some cases actually reduced fatigue life. The balance of the program was devoted to determining the effect of tubing imperfections. (Modified author abstract).

Book Description
The objective of the program was to evaluate hydrostatically extruded Ti-3Al-2.5V hydraulic tubing. However, 'shear-spun' tubing had to be substituted for evaluation. Tests conducted on the shear-spun tubing included rotary flexure and impulse fatigue, flaring, bending, flattening, and tensile strength. The shear-spun tubing was found to be inferior to conventionally produced tubing because of poor surface finish. (Author).

Book Description
Manufacturing procedures were developed for producing high-quality tubing of the metastable beta titanium alloy Ti-3Al-8V-6Cr-4Mo-4Zr. In excess of 500 feet of tubing was produced and evaluated in each of the three sizes at 0.75-, 0.54- and 0.375-inch diameter. The Ti-3Al-8V-6Cr-4Mo-4Zr alloy was found to be a highly producible tubing material with mechanical properties better than those of other titanium tubing alloys. The producibility of Ti-38-6-44 is enhanced most significantly by proper thermal treatments at initial and intermediate tube sizes, proper reduction sequences and precise tooling arrangements. Ti-38-6-44 was found to offer a wide range of strength levels, as tubing, with excellent ductility. Yield strengths were measured from 120 to more than 200 ksi. Aged to 180 ksi yield strength, Ti-38-6-44 has about 14 percent elongation and a strength-to-weight ratio of 1,035,000 inches which is considerably greater than that of other hydraulic tubing alloys. Book Description
This report contains the fatigue, metallurgical, and bend test results on titanium alloy 3Al-2.5V cold worked and stress relieved tubing procured during the prototype supersonic transport test program, and the new texture-controlled tubing. The tubing procured for the prototype program was tested with three different inside-diameter finishes developed by Boeing, Grumman Aerospace, and McDonnell-Douglas. The texture-controlled tubing was developed during this program, and its requirements are defined in the new Boeing-proposed specification, which is included in this report. (Author).
