Les sages-femmes libérales prennent désormais de plus en plus de place au sein des professionnels de santé libéraux. Ce mode d’exercice s’est amplement développé ces dernières années en France. Il nous semblait donc essentiel de s’intéresser à l’installation libérale dès la sortie de l’école et plus particulièrement aux motivations et freins des étudiants sages-femmes à l’installation libérale juste après l’obtention du diplôme. Pour y répondre, une enquête quantitative par questionnaire a été réalisée auprès de 80 étudiants sages-femmes de 4ème et 5ème année de formation. L’étude a révélé que le suivi global de la patiente était la principale motivation des étudiants sages-femmes et que les principaux freins à l’installation étaient le manque d’expérience et le plan financier. Par ailleurs, nous avons constaté que les étudiants ne se sentaient pas assez informé sur ce domaine alors que la plupart ont reçu des cours théoriques et ont effectué des stages dans un cabinet de sages-femmes libérales. En conclusion, grâce au nouveau programme de formation, les étudiants doivent effectuer un stage de longue durée pendant lequel ils pourraient donc prendre de l’assurance quant à l’exercice libéral de la profession. Il semble également important de proposer aux étudiants intéressés un approfondissement des modalités d’installation en libéral. Notons que le site du Conseil national des sages-femmes peut leurs être d’un appui incontournable pour les informer.
