L'objectif de ce mémoire est d'étudier la dimension esthétique de la voix parlée dans le contexte spécifique des pathologies vocales (i.e. dysphonies légères et modérées). La question que nous posons est de savoir si une voix pathologique peut séduire. Pour y répondre, nous avons recueilli 62 enregistrements de voix masculines saines (n = 31) et dysphoniques (légères (n = 14) et moyennes (n= 17), gradées par des professionnels de la voix sur la base de l'échelle GRBAS. Ces échantillons de parole ont été présentés à 92 auditrices naïves, dans le cadre d'une étude perceptive au cours de laquelle les juges devaient, d'une part, évaluer le degré de séduction de chaque voix et, d'autre part fournir un ensemble de termes linguistiques (i.e. labels verbaux) permettant de décrire les propriétés de chacune des voix perçues. D'une façon générale, nos résultats montrent que plus la voix est dysphonique, moins elle séduit. Toutefois, l'analyse fine de deux des 5 paramètres de l'échelle GRBAS, (i.e. la raucité (R) et le souffle (B)) permet d'observer que les voix légèrement rauques (degré 1 de raucité) sont perçues comme plus séduisantes que les voix non rauques (RÛ). Bien que toute relative, la dimension esthétique des voix pathologiques semble ainsi - à la lumière de nos résultats résider dans le caractère quelque peu éraillé de la voix. Enfin, l'analyse préliminaire des labels verbaux, permet de remarquer que la plupart des qualificatifs attribués aux voix dysphoniques modérées présentent une connotation négative alors même que les voix dysphoniques légères sont, au même titre que les voix saines, évaluées plutôt positivement.

The importance of an individual's voice in everyday social interaction can scarcely be overestimated. It is an essential element in the listener's analysis of the speaker's physical, psychological and social characteristics. Differences in voice quality reflect different habitual adjustments, or settings, of the vocal apparatus.
