Book Description
A study of past and prospective business development around rail transit stations in the Washington DC area. Washington has one of the very few new and extensive rail transit systems in America, although expectations of transit system-induced revitalization in this area have not uniformly been met. This book develops an econometric model of local development (LOCDEV) around major public investments, applies it to the existing Washington transit system, and uses it to forecast future development levels around new stations. The book includes a user's guide to the LOCDEV model and concludes with reflections on modelling and forecasting.

Book Description
This book contains the Proceedings of a symposium that was held in Rotterdam from 12 to 15 January 1982 to celebrate the 25-th anniversary of the Econometric Institute of the Erasmus University. The subject of the symposium, developments in econometrics and related fields, was particularly appropriate for the occasion. In 25 years the research carried out at the Econometric Institute developed from the original seminal work in econometrics, carried out under the supervision of the first director H. Theil, to embrace related areas such as mathematical economics, operations research, systems theory and other branches of mathematics, statistics and probability theory. To review the state of the art in these areas, thirteen leading experts were invited to deliver a lecture at the symposium; their contributions form .the backbone of this book. Together, they illustrate the wide range and scope of the current scientific activity in these fields. The thirteen authoritative surveys should be of great value to researchers and students alike, who want to become acquainted with recent ideas, current trends and future developments in their chosen fields of interest. Each contribution is preceded by an introduction to the author and his work and followed by a summary of the discussion that followed the lecture. A special chapter is devoted to the history of the Econometric Institute.

Book Description
Thi s book ari ses from The Fourth European Coll oqui urn on Theoret i ca 1 and Quant itat i ve Geography wh i ch was he 1 din Ve 1 dhoven, The Netherlands in September 1985. It contains a series of papers on spatial choice dynamics and dynamical spatial systems which were presented at the colloquium, together with a few other soll icited ones. The book is intended primarily as a state-of-the art review of mainly European research on these two fastly growing problem areas. As a consequence of this decision, the book contains a selection of papers that differs in terms of focus, level of sophistication and conceptual background. Evidently, the dissimination of ideas and computer software is a time-related phenomenon, which in the European context is amplified by differences in language, the profile of geography and the formal training of geographers. The book reflects such differences. It would have been impossible to produce this book without the support of the various European study groups on theoretical and quantitative geography. Without their help the meetings from which this volumes originates would not have been held in the first place. We are also indebted to the Royal Dutch Academy of Science for partly funding the colloquium, and to SISWO and TNOjPSC for providing general support in the organisation of the conference.
