Book Description
This state-of-the-art collection of papers on the theory of Cournotian competition focuses on two main subjects: oligopolistic Cournot competition and contests. The contributors present various applications of the Cournotian Equilibrium Theory, addressing topics such as equilibrium existence and uniqueness, equilibrium structure, dynamic processes, coalitional behavior and welfare. Special emphasis is placed on the aggregative nature of the games that are relevant to such theory. This contributed volume was written to celebrate the 80th birthday of Prof. Koji Okuguchi, a pioneer in oligopoly theory.

Book Description
The first volume of this wide-ranging Handbook contains original contributions by world-class specialists. It provides up-to-date surveys of the main game-theoretic tools commonly used to model industrial organization topics. The Handbook covers numerous subjects in detail including, among others, the tools of lattice programming, supermodular and aggregative games, monopolistic competition, horizontal and vertically differentiated good models, dynamic and Stackelberg games, entry games, evolutionary games with adaptive players, asymmetric information, moral hazard, learning and information sharing models.

Book Description
In this book a rigorous, systematic, mathematical analysis is presented for oligopoly with multi-product firms in static as well as dynamic frameworks in the light of recent developments in theories of games, oligopoly and industrial organization. The general results derived in this book on oligopoly with multi-product firms contain, as special cases, all previous results on oligopoly with single product as well as oligopoly with product differentiation and single product firms. A constructive nu- merical method is given for finding the Cournot-Nash equilibrium, which may be extremely valuable to those who are interested in numerical analysis of the effects of various industrial policies. A sequential adjustment process is also formulated for finding the equilibrium. Dynamic adjustment processes have two versions, one with a discrete time scale and the other with a continuous time scale. The stability of the equilibrium is thoroughly investigated utilizing powerful mathematical results from the stability and linear algebra literature. The methodology developed for analyzing stability proves to be useful for dynamic analysis of economic models.

Book Description
The ambition of the theory of imperfectly competitive markets is to explain the working of markets in which the issue of strategic interaction among firms is central. Our analysis of this problem will be based on equilibrium concepts borrowed from Game Theory. This research program arises several questions on its feasibility like the empirical relevance of the results, the substantial theoretical insights obtained in this way, etc. Unfortunately, most of these questions can not be answered in the short run. This book is written in the hope that this research strategy is meaningful, but about its final success no body can tell. Another important question is if simpler models could deliver the essential insights offered by the theory of imperfectly competitive mar kets. This Introduction will be devoted to argue that, currently, there is no alternative to the approach presented in this book. Consider the following fact: A square inch of soil in the Explanada of Ali cante (located in front of the sea, right in the middle of downtown) cost several times more than a square inch of soil in San Vicente del Raspeig (located sev eral miles toward the interior of the peninsula). l How can we explain such a thing? First notice that because of the large quantity of possible traders involved in this market, we can safely assume that any agent has to accept the market price, i. e. is a price-taker.

Book Description
This textbook offers a systematic, self-contained account of the main contributions of modern game theory and its applications to economics. Starting with a detailed description of how to model strategic situations, the discussion proceeds by studying basic solution concepts, their main refinements, games played under incomplete information, and repeated games. For each of these theoretical developments, there is a companion set of applications that cover the most representative instances of game-theoretic analysis in economics, e.g. oligopolistic competition, public goods, coordination failures, bargaining, insurance markets, implementation theory, signaling and auctions. The theory and applications covered in the first part of the book fall under the so-called 'classical' approach to game theory, which is founded on the paradigm of players' unlimited rationality. The second part shifts towards topics that no longer abide by that paradigm. This leads to the study of topics such as the interplay between evolution and rationality.

Book Description
Abstract from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, , language: English, abstract: From the popular series “Numb3rs” you may know the term “Game Theory”, but do you actually know what this is and how it works? During a six-week session of microeconomics, several basic principles are introduced and applied in the business context. Game Theory deals with the optimal behavior of rational decision makers in a simplified surrounding. This text deals with the optimal behavior during a second price action and within oligopolistic competition. The basic ideas like the prisoner's dilemma are explained and underlined with real examples to simplify and illustrate the dry mathematics behind it. After reading this text, you will be able to solve certain problems in a simplified surrounding by your own and will perceive the world at least a little bit more rational.
