It is, in fact, an attempt to bring to gether, in compact form, all the more important printed sources before 1640, from which we derive our knowledge of the greatest English dramatist, his life and works. In 1916, on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Shake speare's death, an exhibition of books by and about him was held in the New York Public Library from April 2 to July 15, which was visited by over people.
