The material presented herein is organized chronologically and covers the subject from the first days of the NACA in 1915 to the current-day situation of NASA. Inputs from historical archivists at the current NASA Centers have contributed a significant amount of material on the logos of the NACA and NASA at their specific Centers. Particularly valuable information on the chronology of the NACA and NASA logos and the participation of the U.S. Army is also discussed. This publication has two primary objectives regarding the NACA and NASA logos. The first objective is to provide, to the extent possible, detailed information about the designers and design processes for the emblems. The second objective of the discussions is to briefly illustrate the applications of these respected and admired insignias and seals within the cultures of each agency. For this task, photographs and descriptions are used to exemplify applications to buildings; equipment; aircraft and spacecraft; correspondence and documents; and personal memorabilia such as pins, awards, and retirement plaques.

Following the war, this science extended beyond military needs to examine all systems that rely on information and feedback, from the level of the cell to that of society. In The Cybernetics Moment, Ronald R. As ecology becomes the new engineering, the projection of landscape as infrastructure—the contemporary alignment of the disciplines of landscape architecture, civil engineering, and urban planning— has become pressing. Predominant challenges facing urban regions and territories today—including shifting climates, material flows, and population mobilities, are addressed and strategized here. Brian Harvey describes the origins of the Japanese space program, from rocket designs based on WW II German U-boats to tiny solid fuel 'pencil' rockets, which led to the launch of the first Japanese satellite in 1970. The next two chapters relate how Japan expanded its space program, developing small satellites into astronomical observatories and sending missions to the Moon, Mars, comet Halley, and asteroids. Chapter 4 describes how India's Vikram Sarabhai developed a sounding rocket program in the 1960s. The following chapter describes the expansion of the Indian space program. Chapter 6 relates how the Indian space program is looking ahead to the success of the moon probe Chandrayan, due to launch in 2008, and its first manned launching in 2014.
