It is not a biography, yet it contains much that is biographic. It is not a history, yet it is full of historical matter. Those reading it will, I trust, be instructed and helped the more bravely to fight the battles of life. The aim of the writer has been to present facts in a plain way, not to give occasion to the chronic croaker, but to cheer the voyager on life's rough sea. This book has been prepared from the standpoint of the "Rank and File" in the itinerancy, and as a stimulus to all laborers in the Master's vineyard.
