Book Description
This book focuses on uterine endometrial function and receptivity from multiple perspectives. The chapters cover a variety of topics including the role of estrogen and progesterone, animal models, parameters for assessing endometrial receptivity, the mechanism of angiogenesis, epigenetic regulation, and stem/progenitor cells. Despite nearly 35 years of experience with in vitro fertilization, the rate of successful implantations remains low. Abnormal endometrial receptivity has been proposed as one of the factors contributing to reduced reproductive potential in women, but our understanding of it is limited. Endometrial receptivity results from an orchestrated interplay between the embryo and the maternal endometrium, and the receptive status, known as the window of implantation, is reached only briefly in the mid-luteal phase. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the latest advances in endometrial function and paves the way for innovative treatments and drug development for infertility. This work will appeal to a wide readership, from researchers on endometrial function and assisted reproductive technology (ART) to clinicians and technicians in the field of gynecology.

Book Description
The endometrium goes through cyclical changes under the influence of hormones, and immune effectors in the endometrium change their populations cyclically as well. Dynamic changes in immune effectors determine endometrial cytokine and chemokine milieus and, consequently, the endometrial immune response. Endometrial immune responses have been shown to be important for trophoblast invasion and early pregnancy. Indeed, dysregulated endometrial inflammatory immune responses are associated with reproductive failures, such as recurrent pregnancy losses, repeated implantation failure, and gynecological diseases with oncogenic potential. Hence, the investigation of endometrial gene expression may predict infertility, gynecological and oncological conditions. This book presents the state of the art in endometrial gene expression as well as recent developmental findings relating to reproduction and reproductive disorders. It begins with a review of the genetic regulation of urogenital tract formation and molecular mechanism underlying the physiology of menstrual cycle before moving on to the current and emerging technological advances in molecular biology. Endometrial gene expressions of immune inflammatory conditions, viral infection, metabolic and nutritional conditions, and reproductive disorders are then presented in following chapters. Examples of the use and interpretation of gene expression in clinical scenarios including recurrent pregnancy losses, infertility and multiple implantation failures are presented with currently available endometrial gene analysis. Utilizing the latest evidence and clinical guidelines, Endometrial Gene Expression will be a cutting-edge resource for gynecologist, reproductive immunologist, reproductive endocrinologists, obstetrician, maternal fetal medicine specialist and other health care providers in the field of reproductive medicine.

Book Description
This book is a summary of the present state of the art in the physiology of both endometrial receptivity and implantation. Although these physiological processes are today considered as limiting factors responsible for both infertility and low gestation rates in patients undergoing assisted reproductive techniques, they may, on the other hand, represent future targets for contraception. Several aspects of endometrial receptivity and implantation are discussed in this book. In the first part, basic aspects of the cell biology of endometrial functions as well as the molecular aspects of endometrial receptivity and implantation are discussed. Subsequently the clinical and experimental approaches to endometrial contraception are considered. Finally, some basic questions are raised pointing to the need for further research in order to gain a better understanding of the implantation process and the development of new contraceptive strategies, including the inhibition of endometrial receptivity. The organizers of the workshop and the editors of the volume hope that this book will encourage both universities and the pharmaceutical industry to initiate and/or continue research on endometrial receptivity and implantation.

Book Description
Endometriosis is a condition that often leads to a variety of symptoms that range from pain complaints to infertility. Endometriosis is also found in women who are asymptomatic. The diagnosis of endometriosis can be made clinically with reliability similar to that of one made surgically. Medical treatment options are effective, as are surgical treatment options. Complications associated with surgery, however, push the balance in favor of medical therapy whenever possible. Based on the body of evidence available at present, women with endometriosis-related complaints should be treated with a first-line medical therapy. If that fails, a second-line medical therapy is warranted under most conditions. Laparoscopic surgery should be reserved for patients in whom second-line medical therapy has failed or is contraindicated by desire to conceive immediately or as soon as possible.

Book Description
Globally, pregnancy and childbirth are periods of high morbidity and mortality for women. The key to reducing the risks associated with pregnancy and childbirth is early recognition and provision of high quality care. The aims of critical care issues’ management are broad, the need to address the defects in conceiving followed by early recognition, prevention, and management of preterm births and threatened miscarriages along with studying the essential factors responsible for the same. Infertility has been ranked as one of the greatest sources of stress in a person’s life, comparable to a somatic disease such as cancer and ranked second to that involving the death of a family member or divorce. The role of stress and immunomodulation as a causative factor for infertility has been studied in greater details in recent times due to the changing lifestyles and a relevant discussion has been provided by the author with specific considerations in the Indian clinical settings. Endometriosis is the disease of the millennium, a sticky, perplexing and unconquerable pathology, which has remained an enigma. With increased awareness about endometriosis, improved methods of diagnosis like transvaginal sonography, liberal use of laparoscopy and more frequent evaluation of CA 125, the incidence of endometriosis is rising and thus, a clear understanding of the condition with application of the various advances in the recognition and also the new management protocols being followed, are the need of the day for the practitioners across the country. The polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which features amenorrhea, hirsutism, and obesity, which was initially considered a reproductive and cosmetic concern of young women of reproductive age group, has more recently been recognized to have metabolic and cardiovascular associations that make it of major consequence for women of all age groups worldwide. Keeping in mind the requirements of the society, the practitioners need to update themselves on the current approach and the wide variety of choices now available. This book encompasses the rich experience of the specialists in India who are among the stalwarts in this field.
