A limiting factor in realizing the ultimate sensitivity and associated system accuracy of the more advanced inertial guidance instrumentation is the adverse influence of earth motions on performance. Motions of concern to inertial guidance testing and operations are categorized as propagating and non-propagating. Propagating motions include earth background noise and seismic events while non-propagating motions include local and regional tilts, earth tides, polar wobble, irregularities in earth rate, and precession.
