Book Description
Driftwood Camp is an oilfield Camp located on the southern coast of Trinidad and so called because of the huge amounts of driftwood washed up on the beach mainly from the Orinoco River. The camp was set up to accommodate British nationals hired to exploit the oil resources at the behest of Winston Churchill to aid the war efforts for World War 2 1939-1945.The novel covers the period 1958 to 1964 when many colonies were moving to self government including Trinidad and where change was the order of the day. Dr Eric Williams had led the peoples National Movement to power in 1956 and ultimately to internal self government Independence; eventually Trinidad and Tobago became a Republic. The white British staff enjoy all the benefits of Camp life in strict contrast to the black villages who provide servants, maids, washers and yard boys for the Camp occupants. In their jobs the white "A" staff are highly trained, organised and competent but privately engage in sexual adventures that have serious repercussions.

Book Description
Who is Last? Fame is rare in Driftwood--it's hard to get famous if you don't stick around long enough for people to know you. But many know the guide, Last, a one-blooded survivor who has seen his world end many lifetimes ago. For Driftwood is a strange place of slow apocalypses, where continents eventually crumble into mere neighborhoods, pulled inexorably towards the center in the Crush. Cultures clash, countries fall, and everything eventually disintegrates. Within the Shreds, a rumor goes around that Last has died. Drifters come together to commemorate him. But who really was Last? Lying liar, or heroic savior? A mercenary, a charlatan, a legend? A man, an immortal--perhaps even a god? Discover Marie Brennan (The Memoirs of Lady Trent)'s incomparable Driftwood, a realm of fragments cohered into a myth that encompasses realities.

From the bestselling author of Lulu’s Café Josie Slater has allowed the circumstances anchoring her in Sunset Cove to become a life sentence. Since her mother’s death years before, she’s spent most of her waking hours helping her dad run the Driftwood Diner. As her best friends, Opal and Sophia, make their dreams come true, Josie watches her own art school aspirations drift on by. But when a French-speaking Southern gentleman from her past moves back from Europe, Josie is launched into a tizzy of what-ifs and I-sure-do-hope-sos. August Bradford left Sunset Cove six years ago to sow some life oats and conquer his ambitious career goals. Finally ready to lay down some roots, the successful artist is back in town and determined to win Josie’s heart. When he enlists Josie’s help in the preparations for a children’s art camp, Josie finds herself unleashing her artistic side in a way she hasn’t since before her mother’s death. August hopes to convince Josie to paint a life with him, but the problem is convincing her to let go of her apprehensions and give him—and her dreams—a fair chance.
