Book Description
Don’t Slam The Screen Door is a bedtime storybook inspired from a time before kids were lost to technology. I wanted to write about adventures from my own memorable childhood beyond my own back door. The hope is to motivate boys and girls each night, one chapter and one adventure at a time to explore their surroundings with their young minds and imaginations. Equally important was to model a reminder to dads and moms that it does not take much to stimulate a child’s creativeness. A little schooling never hurt anyone is the philosophy behind the twin’s names which were intentionally chosen. Selected as a strategically play of words by creating a tongue twister of sorts to get kids to articulate and identify slight word differences while reading. I chuckle to think of my own grandchildren correcting my pronunciation when I am reading to them. Also, with our own names being similar in sound and spelling, it was a life experience my twin sister and I personally identified with. Foremost, I wanted this to be a Christian based book, weaving the simplicity of knowing and having a relationship with the Lord. Placing bible scripture at the end of each chapter, in faith the verse becomes a tangible teaching tool pointing to Our Father’s Word. In hope of initiating inquisitive minds to simply open discussion of wanting to know of the scripture’s source, the Holy Bible. Don’t Slam The Screen Door was truly inspired out of love for Our Father, family and my sisters, Juleen, Jeanette and Joette. God Bless, Janette Navickas Dehner

Category : Fiction

Pages : 224
Book Description
The word "family" seems to carry more weight in a small town or rural setting. Without the fast pace and crowded conditions, people with blood ties accumulate and tend to turn to their own for the things that are gained elsewhere from bowling teams, the performing arts, soup kitchens or support groups. The need to be entertained or helpful or competitive or cared for (and about) seems to be more easily and simply met where time and space are plentiful. Those two ingredients are the magnets that always draw family-like friends Noble Stone and Hampton Wormant to South Georgia for healthy doses of kinship and nature, especially the week of the Stone Family Reunion. But even on the trip from Athens, Georgia, trouble starts brewing for the young men and it turns into nightmarish battles in the Okefenokee Swamp to stop the flow of drugs through a protected wilderness. With timing ever a factor and the vastness ever present, it becomes a constant attempt for both sides not to emerge victorious, but to simple endure the harsh treatment of man and nature. Grab your canoe paddle and insect spray and join Noble, Hamp, Jar, Chase, Ty and Byron on the tea-colored water in the Land of the Trembling Earth.

Book Description
The early morning rain had stopped and a cool mist shrouded the lonesome mountainside. The smell was fresh and invigorating to me as I stood beside the old hickory tree with its new leaves, an iridescent bright green, glowing against the dreary gray sky. I stood quietly and watched a lone eagle soar above, looking for an unsuspecting prey hidden in the overgrown weeds in the long neglected fields. I had stayed away too long, now, I wanted to return to the source of my childhood.

Stories Seen Through Screen Doors
Author: Dr. Wanda Macon
Publisher: AuthorHouse
ISBN: 1665502088
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 163
Book Description
Stories Seen Through Screen Doors The Roots and Branches of Black Southern Experience A truth seldom recognized is that there are almost as many African American southern experiences as there are states and cities in the South. Our lives as southern black people intersect, but they also diverge into unique patterns of learning, growth, and discovery. The stories contained in this collection illustrate some of those similarities as well as the differences. Wanda Macon shares with millions of African Americans a southern soil that is rich in family, church, and racial repression, but she also highlights the spiritedness of a tomboyish young girl, too smart for her preschool age, formed by a variety of occurrences in her small southern community. "The Courts," a horseshoe shaped neighborhood and home to twenty-three families located in fictional Friarsdale, Mississippi, is the site for experience, memory, reflection, and locating one's self in the history of the geography as well as the history of family and community. By Trudier Harris, University Distinguished Research Professor Department of English, The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Find a Way Or Make a Way
Author: William Edgar McCraney
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1462896391
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 461
Book Description
The influence of these individuals left a lasting, positive influence in the life of a confused young man. Working at two jobs most of his adult life to keep the rent paid and food on the table and to provide clothing for his family, he and his wife worked together to create a viable home life. Professionally, he served as a firefighter and captain for twenty-seven years for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. About midway between his career, he was instrumental in creating a father son family business, Spacemaker Plumbing Products. While retaining his job with the fire department, with the help of his son, he became a successful business owner, developer, inventor, entrepreneur, and CEO for twenty-one years. He worked tirelessly in developing money-making opportunities and growing the business. Knowing you cannot blame anyone for the outcome of your life, if you do the finger-pointing at others, you will never grow up into adulthood and receive the gratification and knowledge that you are your own person. Thanks to my grandmothers, maternal grandfather, aunts, and uncles for showing me the side of life that could be mine if I worked long and hard enough to achieve the rewards. I hope that some young person who is having a hard life will somehow read this book and come away with even one thought that helps him or her to avoid the mistakes I made in my life. Though the communities mentioned are where the stories occurred, some of the names of the people in the stories have been changed to hide embarrassing situations for individuals still living.
