Book Description
Concerning the importance of class participation, a series of studies have been reported by researchers. Further studies in this area also investigated students' participation in online language learning environments. The present study determined to investigate whether great interactions in online participations lead to passing grade at the end of the course. To do this, 112 undergraduates, comprising 57 male and 55 female students who enrolled for online English as a foreign Language (EFL) courses participated in this study. In order to find the relationship between online interaction and passing grades of the students, the collected data were analyzed by applying multiple regression analysis. The results of data analysis showed that the more students participated in online interactions, the more likely they would secure the passing grades. The findings further emphasized that passing grade in online courses can be predictable by the frequency of online participation.

Book Description
Over the last few decades, the use of virtual technologies in education, including foreign/second language instruction, has developed into a substantial field of study. Through virtual technologies, language learners can develop metacognitive and metalinguistic skills, and they can practice the language by interacting with real/virtual users or virtual objects, a very important issue for language learners who have no or little contact with native or target language speakers outside the classroom. Assessing the Effectiveness of Virtual Technologies in Foreign and Second Language Instruction provides emerging research exploring the theoretical and practical aspects of virtual technologies and applications in engaging language learners both within and outside the classroom. Featuring coverage on a broad range of topics such as game-based learning, online classrooms, and learning management systems, this publication is ideally designed for academicians, researchers, scholars, educators, graduate-level students, software developers, instructional designers, linguists, and education administrators seeking current research on how virtual technologies can be utilized and interpreted methodologically in virtual classroom settings.

Book Description
English language teaching (ELT) has changed dramatically over the past decade in Asia, an area of the world where English is taught as a foreign language, rather than a second language. A drastic movement has been made from the traditional Grammar-Translation Method to more communicative approaches to teaching and learning, such as project-based and task-based learning. In this book, the authors outline the development of ELT in Asia in the past decade in the wider context of educational reform in the region which puts greater value on the acquisition of English and in student-centered classrooms. Given the growing importance of English and the enormous energy and enthusiasm in the region for learning the language in both formal and informal contexts, ELT will continue to flourish. University and secondary school teachers and researchers from five different Asian countries share methodologies and innovative programs that they have found to be successful in their classrooms, including ideas for technology-enhanced language learning. This volume offers insight into the daily academic lives of secondary and university English language classrooms across the region and shows how English is currently being reframed in this vibrant region.
