While many doctors claim that Lyme disease—a tick-borne bacterial infection—is easily diagnosed and treated, other doctors and the patients they care for argue that it can persist beyond standard antibiotic treatment in the form of chronic Lyme disease. In Divided Bodies, Abigail A. Dumes offers an ethnographic exploration of the Lyme disease controversy that sheds light on the relationship between contested illness and evidence-based medicine in the United States. Drawing on fieldwork among Lyme patients, doctors, and scientists, Dumes formulates the notion of divided bodies: she argues that contested illnesses are disorders characterized by the division of bodies of thought in which the patient's experience is often in conflict with how it is perceived. Dumes also shows how evidence-based medicine has paradoxically amplified differences in practice and opinion by providing a platform of legitimacy on which interested parties—patients, doctors, scientists, politicians—can make claims to medical truth.

Anaxagoras of Clazomenae (Vth century BCE) is best known in the history of philosophy for his stance that there is a share of everything in everything. He puts forward this theory of extreme mixture as a solution to the problem of change that he and his contemporaries inherited from Parmenides - that what is cannot come from what is not (and vice versa). Yet, for ancient and modern scholars alike, the metaphysical significance of Anaxagoras's position has proven challenging to understand. In Everything in Everything, Anna Marmodoro offers a fresh interpretation of Anaxagoras's theory of mixture, arguing for its soundness and also relevance to contemporary debates in metaphysics. For Anaxagoras the fundamental elements of reality are the opposites (hot, cold, wet, dry, etc.), which Marmodoro argues are instances of physical causal powers. The unchanging opposites compose mereologically, forming (phenomenologically) emergent wholes. Everything in the universe (except nous) derives from the opposites. Marmodoro shows that this is made possible in Anaxagoras system by the omni-presence and hence com-presence of the opposites in the universe, which is in turn facilitated by the fact that for Anaxagoras the opposites exist as unlimitedly divided. She argues that Anaxagoras is the first ante litteram 'gunk lover' in the history of metaphysics. He also has a unique conception of (non-material) gunk and a unique power ontology, which Marmodoro refers to as 'power gunk'. Marmodoro investigates the nature of power gunk and the explanatory utility of the concept for Anaxagoras, for his theory of extreme mixture; and finally contrasts it with the only other metaphysical system in antiquity positing (material) gunk, that of the Stoics.

Christian Pfeiffer explores an important, but neglected topic in Aristotle's theoretical philosophy: the theory of bodies. A body is a three-dimensionally extended and continuous magnitude bounded by surfaces. This notion is distinct from the notion of a perceptible or physical substance. Substances have bodies, that is to say, they are extended, their parts are continuous with each other and they have boundaries, which demarcate them from their surroundings. Pfeiffer argues that body, thus understood, has a pivotal role in Aristotle's natural philosophy. A theory of body is a presupposed in, e.g., Aristotle's account of the infinite, place, or action and passion, because their being bodies explains why things have a location or how they can act upon each other. The notion of body can be ranked among the central concepts for natural science which are discussed in Physics III-IV. The book is the first comprehensive and rigorous account of the features substances have in virtue of being bodies. It provides an analysis of the concept of three-dimensional magnitude and related notions like boundary, extension, contact, continuity, often comparing it to modern conceptions of it. Both the structural features and the ontological status of body is discussed. This makes it significant for scholars working on contemporary metaphysics and mereology because the concept of a material object is intimately tied to its spatial or topological properties.

Inside of us is a relativity that runs as deep as the ocean can get and as hot as the sun can burn. There’s no wonder why nature and space can really be so fascinating and reassuring to our meaning. The contents in our being, the substance to our relativity is so vast and distant that it holds stars and galaxies, but also so small and close that it cannot even be seen or felt inside the palm of your hand. We are infinitely relative to the basis of all that exists whether it’s perceived or not. It doesn’t matter what religion you believe, what country you come from, or what color your skin is because you’re still relative to humanity, as humanity is relative to life, as life is relative to matter, as matter is relative to space, space to time, and so on a so forth. We’re dimensional incorporations to a fabric that’s woven from a collective relativity and stretched comparative to that of a dividing singularity. We’re interweaving expressions of each other that elaborate the function of our basis: that explains and proclaims the word in our own various and collective collaborations. All of our credit, belongings and possessions have to go back to the source in which they came, but should also be done with pride, in love, and in thanksgiving for it’s opportunity and our chance to experience. The experience, however, is a part of the legacy that will be contributed to the collective experience and added back to the source of the singular consciousness. The content in which we safeguard with our body and express through our representation, will pass on in the link of experience and chain of consciousness. We’re all relative to its basis and the passion to which it’s professed should also be made to that of relation. We shouldn’t hang our relative ground to simple devise and petty similarity like race, nationality or religion, but remain passionate to understanding and relative to purpose and meaning. The word is a vindication from a meaningless life and is an ultimatum to a higher purpose that is just passed a threshold of your own demise. The word is the content in which the house of your body safeguards as you transmit your experience to the universal plane of infinite oneness with the source of our existence.
