Book Description
Close friends Henry, Tess, Winnie and Suz spend the summer after graduation in a remote cabin in the Vermont woods where they play elaborate, sometimes dangerous, games. But everything changes when one particularly twisted experiment ends in Suz's death, which the others decide to cover up. Nearly a decade later, Henry and Tess are married and living an hour's drive from the old cabin. Though they have tried to forget that summer, the past isn't ready to let them go. When a victim of one of their past pranks commits suicide - seemingly triggered by a mysterious postcard - it sets off a chain of disturbing events that threatens to engulf them. Is there someone who wants to reveal their secrets? Or is it possible Suz did not really die? **This title was previously published in the UK as GIRL IN THE WOODS**

Book Description
Dismantled is an accessible, critical look at the devolution of local power in the Detroit public school system. The author examines the rise of charter schools and other private enterprises, the eclipse of control from local actors to new players and influences, and the invaluable lessons the experience holds for urban school systems nationwide. Kang provides a compelling narrative of this shift in power beginning in the 1980s and leading to the breakup of Detroit Public Schools in 2016, and concludes with a discussion on the implications and dilemmas of regime change. The text looks at such questions as: What happens when local actors no longer have a voice in what happens to their schools? What are the consequences when teachers and administrators cede control to private interests and cease to participate in decisionmaking? What are some ways to redirect public schooling towards democracy in the aftermath of dismantling the Progressive Era system? Book Features: Examines how a series of policies dismantled the Detroit Public Schools, resulting in new educational characteristics such as the marketization and privatization of schooling. Offers an historical perspective on market-based reform, including why and how race and politics serve as barriers to reform. Explains the role and influence of Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos in the Detroit events. Provides a framework from which to envision the next steps for public education in the 21st century.

Book Description
Nuclear arms reduction agreements and parallel commitments since 1987 will remove from active deployment about 27,000 former Soviet Union bombs and warheads. When START I and II are fully implemented, Russia will have eliminated 1,000 strategic delivery vehicles and removed from active deployment 4,500 strategic warheads. Ukraine will give up 176 SS-19s and -24s and 1,240 strategic warheads as well as cruise missile warheads. Kazakhstan will relinquish 104 SS-18s and 1,040 strategic warheads. The 81 SS-25 single-warhead missiles placed in Belarus by the Soviet Union will be withdrawn and probably redeployed on Russian territory. The United States will eliminate over 1,300 strategic delivery vehicles under the START agreements, and will remove from active deployment more than 6,000 strategic warheads. These reductions, in terms of systems scheduled for elimination and the destructive potential they represent, amount to the greatest program of disarmament in human history. The process also signals a change in relations between Washington and Moscow, if only by dramatically reversing the trend to increase nuclear weapons targeted against each other's homeland.
