Book Description
Recently, something strange happened in the capital. The heir of the Puyang family, who had been disguising herself as a man, passed away, but a month later, she crawled out of her own grave. After waking up, she flirted with countless people, drifting through a sea of admirers without getting caught. But then the scene shifted... A certain prince discovered her true identity as a woman. "You want to kill me?" The poor Puyang Nan hadn't even had a chance to throw her hidden weapon before her wrist was seized by the prince, who had been pretending to be a sheep while actually being a tiger, pinning her against the door. Later, Xie Yan finally understood he hadn’t "bent," it was simply that the person he liked from the beginning was a girl. But this little girl was constantly causing him trouble. Even during a military expedition, she dared to play tricks like the "empty city" strategy, almost losing her life in the process... This time, she truly angered the regent prince. He decided to drop his façade entirely and simply carried her back to the royal mansion and into the bridal chamber. "Xie Yan, you bastard!" The scolded man chuckled softly, "There are worse things to come..."

Yet the bond between the sisters was palpable from the start. Now reinstated, Mary eventually assumes her place as queen. But as Mary's religious zeal evolves into a reign of terror, young Elizabeth gains the people's favor. Gripped by a tormenting paranoia, Mary is soon convinced that her beloved Elizabeth is in fact her worst enemy. And the virginal Elizabeth, whose true love is her country, must defy her tyrannical sister to make way for a new era. . . A brilliant portrait of the rule of "Bloody Mary" and her intricate relationship with Elizabeth I, the adored "Virgin Queen," here is a riveting tale of one family's sordid and extraordinary chapter in the pages of history. The Argumentative Theatre of Joe Penhall
Author: William C. Boles
Publisher: McFarland
ISBN: 0786485515
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 212
Book Description
Of the many dynamic, young playwrights to be associated with the "In-Yer-Face" burst of creative talent on the British stage in the mid-1990s, Joe Penhall has challenged Britain's status quo the most. Penhall believes his plays should constantly provoke and enrage not only the institutions he targets, but also his audience. This critical book discusses the argumentative nature of Penhall's plays, while also placing them within the context of contemporary British society and the modern dramatic tradition. His eight plays are discussed in detail, and particular attention is paid to male identity, the nature of grief, the variety of females, domestic drama, and the role of autobiography in his work.

The voyage and visit of the Kanrin Maru to San Francisco
Author: Graham Thomas FRSA
Publisher: Sagus
ISBN: 1911489992
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 91
Book Description
The Kanrin Maru was the first Japanese ship to visit the United States of America in an official capacity as the Treaty of Edo that Japan signed with the US Government in 1858 stipulated that Japan should subsequently dispatch an envoy to the US to ratify the Treaty. By March 1859 it had been agreed that a Japanese ambassador and officials would travel to Washington on the Powhatan, the US’s flagship of the East India Squadron, a voyage that was then scheduled to start a year later in February 1860. Preparations to dispatch an ambassador then began. Sometime thereafter, the Japanese government decided they would also send a ship of their own to America. Behind this decision lay three reasons. First this was a matter of pride showing that they too were capable of crossing the mighty Pacific Ocean in their own vessel; second, on a practical note, the Kanrin Maru (the vessel that made the journey) would return with news of Powhatan’s safe arrival in the US but third, she would also carry a second Ambassador in case the Powhatan failed to reach the US. This is the story of that voyage.
