Introduction to Benin
Author: Gilad James, PhD
Publisher: Gilad James Mystery School
ISBN: 0321942485
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 68
Book Description
Benin is a small country in West Africa, bordered by Nigeria to the east, Togo to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Formerly called Dahomey, the country achieved independence from France in 1960. Benin is known for its diverse culture, including the Yoruba, Fon, Adja, and Bariba peoples, as well as its rich history, which includes the powerful Kingdom of Dahomey, which existed from the 17th to the 19th century. The country has a mix of religions, including indigenous African religions, Christianity, and Islam, and its official language is French. Benin's economy is largely based on agriculture, with most of the population engaged in subsistence farming. Key crops include cotton, yams, cassava, and maize. The country also has some mineral resources, although they are not fully exploited. In recent years, Benin has made progress in boosting economic growth and reducing poverty, although it remains one of the poorest countries in the world.

Theory and Practice in the Interdisciplinary Production and Reproduction of Scientific Knowledge
Author: Olga Pombo
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031204050
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 319
Book Description
This book addresses the urgent need for a large and systematic analysis of current interdisciplinary (ID) research and practice. It demonstrates how ID is essentially a cognitive phenomenon, something different from the frivolous and inconsequential attempt of trying to overcome the disciplinary competencies and exigencies. By ID, the authors show that it is a manifestation of the transversal rationality that underlies current scientific activity. It is the very progress of specialized disciplines that requires interdisciplinary new research practices and new forms of articulation between domains, something that has a strong impact on the traditional disciplinary structure of scientific and educational institutions. Divided into two parts, the book presents a conceptual framework as well as several case studies on ID practices. The book aims at covering three main themes. It contributes to the stabilization of ID meaning and characterizes the main ID theorizations which have been proposed until now. It builds an innovative and broad understanding of the several ID determinations as an essentially cognitive phenomenon and of its institutional implications at the level of disciplinary structures and curricular organization. Finally, it distinguishes and maps the diversity of ID procedures and practices which are being used and tested by contemporary scientific and educational institutions. This book is addressed to philosophers, scientists and every one interested in science production and reproduction, including science teaching.

A Bibliography of Higher Education in Canada / Bibliographie de L'Enseignement Supérieur au Canada
Author: Robin S. Harris
Publisher: University of Toronto Press
ISBN: 148758976X
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 184
Book Description
This bibliography is the first of a series of studies about higher education in Canada sponsored by the committee on the History of Higher Education in Canada established by the National Conference of Canadian Universities. Among its nearly 4,000 entries are included the books, pamphlets, theses, dissertations, and articles in journals and magazines which supply the context and commentary on the history of Canadian higher education. Part I of the Bibliography provides the context; our universities do not exist in a vacuum—they are part of the economic, political, religious and social life of the community. Part I, therefore, includes a section on Canadian Culture, listing histories of Canada and its provinces, of its religious and social institutions, of its art, its economy, racial groups, relations with other countries. In order to study higher education in relation to other levels of education, another section lists works concerned with educational developments and problems at all levels. Part II lists the works bearing directly on higher education in Canada, and includes sections on History and Organization, Curriculum and Teaching, The Professor, The Student. Entries are arranged in chronological order in all sections in order to present the progressive development of each topic, and a full Index enables easy reference by author. No distinction has been drawn between English- and French-language publications: Chemistry and Chimie are one subject. The relative proportion of English and French entries in a section is often significant as indicating differences in the frequency and importance of particular fields of study in our colleges.
