Book Description
They just vanished... disappeared without leaving a trace. This book shed lights on some of the most intriguing missing person cases. There are countless stories all over the globe of average, everyday people suddenly vanishing under the strangest and most inopportune of circumstances. These cases have baffled the experts and remained unsolved for decades. The missing person cases presented in this book have diverse backgrounds, but they are all equally mysterious. Here we will dive headfirst into some of the most unusual disappearing acts on record. Rational explanations have been put forward for some, but many lack any plausible theories whatsoever. This book relates the true yet astonishing tales of prime ministers lost at sea, esteemed physicists vanishing without a trace, great explorers lost in the wilderness. From the World War II veteran who seemed to literally disappear into thin air on a bus ride home, to the ill-fated singer-songwriter Connie Converse who right around her 50th birthday decided to pull a "Bilbo Baggins" (Connie's own words) on the ones she loved by slipping on her very own ring of invisibility and vanishing out of sight, this book takes us through some of the saddest, the most intriguing, and the most downright bizarre accounts of lost souls that you will ever find. Book Description
When Virginia Dare was born in Roanoke Colony in 1587, her birth was probably heralded as a new beginning, not just for the tiny baby but for the entire colony. She was the first child of English parents to be born in what English settlers called the “New World.” But three years later, Virginia, her parents, and all other members of the Roanoke colony had disappeared. History is silent about their fate. The story of Virginia Dare and her fellow settlers is a famous one that is still studied and wondered about to this day. Weird Disappearances: Real Tales of Missing People, for readers ages 9 to 12, is a collection of five true tales that examine five moments in history when someone vanished without a trace. Chapters include Virginia Dare, Amelia Earhart, Solomon Northrop, Percy Fawcett, and Anastasia Romanov. These mysterious figures are discussed against the backdrop of historical circumstances, whether it be the carving out of a new world in an ancient culture, the upheaval of the Russian Revolution, or the blazing of a new trail high in the skies. Weird Disappearances is the fourth book in a new series called Mystery & Mayhem, which features true tales that whet kids’ appetites for history by engaging them in genres with proven track records—mystery and adventure. History is made of near misses, unexplained disappearances, unsolved mysteries, and bizarre events that are almost too weird to be true—almost! The Mystery & Mayhem series delves into these tidbits of history to provide kids with a jumping off point into a lifelong habit of appreciating history. Each of the five true tales told within Weird Disappearances is paired with a map, as well as fun facts about the setting, industry, and time period. A glossary and resources page provide the opportunity to practice using essential academic tools. These nonfiction narratives use clear, concise language with compelling plots that both avid and reluctant readers will be drawn to.

Book Description
Drawing on confidential Argentinian documents and memoranda, Behind the Disappearances documents a seven-year diplomatic war by one of the twentieth century's most brutal regimes. It relates how, starting in 1976, Argentina's military government tried to cripple the UN's human rights machinery in an effort to prevent international condemnation of its policy of disappearances. Initially this attempt succeeded, but in 1980—with encouragement from the Carter administration—UN officials regained the initiative and created a special working group on disappearances that rejuvenated the UN's efforts. This progress was abruptly halted in 1981 when the Reagan administration sided with the Argentinian regime. The result, claims the author, not only undercut the UN's actions against disappearances but also weakened its chances of playing a positive role in aiding Latin America's transition from dictatorship to democracy.

Book Description
Cases of missing people that defy explanation! Some missing person cases are more bizarre and mysterious than others. This book reports such cases. We often tend to think that we can easily find the explanation to everything around us, yet there are so many situations where this is not possible. People themselves continue to disappear seemingly without a trace even with all of the technological and scientific advancement that humanity has had. People disappear every single day, but there are a few cases that simply defy explanation. There are those who have walked into forests and never come out. There are people who have disappeared from secure compounds with no explanation, and even individuals who seem to have vanished into thin air right in front of security cameras. As much as we would like to find some mundane explanation for these cases, a persistent percentage of disappearances remain completely mysterious in every sense of the word. Here in this book, we have brought together some of the most mind-boggling of these strange instances of abrupt vanishing on record, including: The Ill-Fated Alien Abductee Anjikuni, the Vanishing Village Abducted by Bigfoot The Fierce Legend of Ambrose Bierce What Happened to Gerry Irwin? The Mysterious Disappearance of a Manic Street Preacher The Troubling Case of Brandon Lawson And many more! Scroll back up and order your copy today!
