Depuis toujours la grossesse soulève d’importantes questions et celle du handicap n’est pas des moindres. D’importants moyens sont mis en place par les pouvoirs publics pour suivre les grossesses et dépister des pathologies fœtales et maternelles. Ces pathologies sont susceptibles d’entraîner une proposition d’Interruption Médicale de Grossesse (IMG) à n’importe quel terme de la grossesse. Notre étude porte sur les alternatives possibles lorsqu’un refus est exprimé par les parents. Notre objectif principal est de définir quel est le devenir à court terme du fœtus et du nouveau-né. Il s’agit d’une étude descriptive longitudinale rétrospective concernant l’issue des grossesses après un refus d’IMG entre le 1er Janvier 2002 et le 31 Décembre 2007 au Centre Pluridisciplinaire de Diagnostic Prénatal du CHU de Grenoble. Notre population se compose de 73 patientes. Les issues de grossesses recueillies sont 19 morts fœtales in utero, quatre décès per partum et 50 naissances vivantes. Pour les naissances vivantes, 82% des nouveaux-nés présentent une bonne adaptation à la vie extra-utérine. Leur prise en charge s’est répartie entre la maternité (24%), l’hospitalisation en service de néonatologie (30%), l’hospitalisation en réanimation néonatale (32%) et 14% sont décédés en salle de naissance. Il est nécessaire, sur le plan éthique, pour les équipes obstétrico-pédiatriques de rester à l’écoute de ces patients et de tout mettre en œuvre pour les suivre dans les meilleures conditions possibles d’accueil et d’accompagnement.

Heloise was not alone in making this assumption. Sources from Jerome onward never cease to remind us that the life of the mind stands at odds with life in the family. For all that we have moved in the past two generations beyond kings and battles, fiefs and barons, motherhood has remained a blind spot for medieval historians. Whatever the reasons, the result is that the historiography of the medieval period is largely motherless. The aim of this book is to insist that this picture is intolerably one-dimensional, and to begin to change it. The volume is focussed on the paradox of motherhood in the European Middle Ages: to be a mother is at once to hold great power, and by the same token to be acutely vulnerable. The essays look to analyse the powers and the dangers of motherhood within the warp and weft of social history, beginning with the premise that religious discourse or practice served as a medium in which mothers (and others) could assess their situation, defend claims, and make accusations. Within this frame, three main themes emerge: survival, agency, and institutionalization. The volume spans the length and breadth of the Middle Ages, from late Roman North Africa through ninth-century Byzantium to late medieval Somerset, drawing in a range of types of historian, including textual scholars, literary critics, students of religion and economic historians. Composite statues of gold (chrysos), ivory (elephas), and other precious materials were the most celebrated artworks of classical antiquity. Greek and Latin authors leave no doubt that such images provided a centrepiece for religious and civic life and that vast sums were spent to producethem. A number of these statues were the creations of antiquity's most highly acclaimed artists: Polykleitos, Alkamenes, Leochares, and, of course, Pheidias, whose magnificent Zeus Olympios came to be ranked among the Seven Wonders of the World. Concepts of childhood and the treatment of children are often used as a barometer of society's humanity, values, and priorities. Children and Childhood in Roman Italy argues that in Roman society children were, in principle and often in practice, welcome, valued and visible. There is no evidence directly from children themselves, but we can reconstruct attitudes to them, and their own experiences, from a wide variety of material - art and architecture, artefacts, funerary dedications, Roman law, literature, and public and private ritual. There are distinctively Roman aspects to the treatment of children and to children's experiences. Education at many levels was important. The commemoration of children who died young has no parallel, in earlier or later societies, before the twentieth century. This study builds on the dynamic work on the Roman family that has been developing in recent decades. Its focus on the period between the first century BCE and the early third century CE provides a context for new work being done on early Christian societies, especially in Rome.
