Book Description
Hybrid microelectronics containing both conventional electronic components and high-temperature superconductive films have been designed, fabricated, and tested. The devices operate from room temperature to 75K and perform d.c. four-probe resistance measurements on six superconductive specimens resident on each circuit. Four of these hybrid circuits were incorporated into the Materials In Devices As Superconductors (MIDAS) spaceflight experiment and evaluated over a 90-day period on the Mir space station. Prior to launch, comprehensive testing of the flight circuits was performed to determine the effects of thermal cycling, vibration loads, and long-term operation on circuit performance. This report describes the fabrication and assembly procedures used to produce the hybrid circuits, the techniques used to integrate the circuits into the MIDAS hardware system, and the results of pre-flight evaluations which verified circuit functionality.

Book Description
Covering a wide range of industrial applications across sectors including medical applications, automotive/aerospace, packaging, electronics, and consumer goods, this book provides a complete guide to the selection of adhesives, methods of use, industrial applications, and the fundamentals of adhesion. Dr Ebnesajjad examines the selection of adhesives and adhesion methods and challenges for all major groups of substrate including plastics (thermosets and thermoplastics), elastomers, metals, ceramics and composite materials. His practical guidance covers joint design and durability, application methods, test methods and troubleshooting techniques. The science and technology of adhesion, and the principles of adhesive bonding are explained in a way that enhances the reader's understanding of the fundamentals that underpin the successful use and design of adhesives. The third edition has been updated throughout to include recent developments in the industry, with new sections covering technological advances such as nanotechnology, micro adhesion systems, and the replacement of toxic chromate technology. Provides practitioners of adhesion technology with a complete guide to bonding materials successfully Covers the whole range of commonly used substrates including plastics, metals, elastomers and ceramics, explaining basic principles and describing common materials and application techniques Introduces the range of commercially available adhesives and the selection process alongside the science and technology of adhesion

Book Description
This final entry in the History of Human Space Exploration mini-series by Ben Evans continues with an in-depth look at the latter part of the 20th century and the start of the new millennium. Picking up where Partnership in Space left off, the story commemorating the evolution of manned space exploration unfolds in further detail. More than fifty years after Yuri Gagarin’s pioneering journey into space, Evans extends his overview of how that momentous voyage continued through the decades which followed. The Twenty-first Century in Space, the sixth book in the series, explores how the fledgling partnership between the United States and Russia in the 1990s gradually bore fruit and laid the groundwork for today’s International Space Station. The narrative follows the convergence of the Shuttle and Mir programs, together with standalone missions, including servicing the Hubble Space Telescope, many of whose technical and human lessons enabled the first efforts to build the ISS in orbit. The book also looks to the future of developments in the 21st century.
