The World Health Organization defines the social determinants of health as "the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live, and age, and the wider set of forces and systems shaping the conditions of daily life." These forces and systems include economic policies, development agendas, cultural and social norms, social policies, and political systems. In an era of pronounced human migration, changing demographics, and growing financial gaps between rich and poor, a fundamental understanding of how the conditions and circumstances in which individuals and populations exist affect mental and physical health is imperative. Educating health professionals about the social determinants of health generates awareness among those professionals about the potential root causes of ill health and the importance of addressing them in and with communities, contributing to more effective strategies for improving health and health care for underserved individuals, communities, and populations. Recently, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convened a workshop to develop a high-level framework for such health professional education. A Framework for Educating Health Professionals to Address the Social Determinants of Health also puts forth a conceptual model for the framework's use with the goal of helping stakeholder groups envision ways in which organizations, education, and communities can come together to address health inequalities.

In the new normal, educational institutions find ways for teaching-learning to continue. Remarkably, distance education has been a great means of continuous learning. In this kind of learning condition, access to quality learning is paramount. The main goal of this research was to determine the effect of the factors of distance education on learning quality during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research design was an exploratory, descriptive approach involving the teachers and students in the Senior High School (SHS) Department of four campuses. Based on the results, the factors in distance education, such as instructional design, support system, and implementation, significantly predicted the learning quality of SHS students during the COVID-19 pandemic. When grouped according to campuses, the perceived level of learning quality in distance education noted a significant difference. This may indicate that learning quality can be intensified by the factors in distance education and be carried out on the four campuses. This intensification may be considered in formulating the Distance Education Program in the SHS on all university campuses.

Abstract— The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted traditional educational systems, necessitating a rapid transition to distance education. This mixed-methods study aimed to evaluate the experiences of 85,000 distance education students in India during the pandemic. The quantitative survey revealed that 63% of participants reported high satisfaction, with 57% rating their learning outcomes as good or excellent. The primary modes of distance education were recorded lectures (40%), live virtual classes (35%), and online assignments (12%). However, 47% occasionally faced technical issues, and challenges included understanding online content (29%), lack of interaction (41%), and frequent technical problems (20%). Qualitative interviews highlighted satisfaction with flexibility, self-management, and global interactions, but also revealed the impact of socio-economic factors on technology access and overall satisfaction. Despite challenges, the majority expressed high satisfaction with personalized learning and interactive platforms. The study provides valuable insights for optimizing online learning platforms, addressing digital divides, and fostering resilient educational practices.
