Book Description
Vertical transportation systems (elevators, lifts, escalators and passenger conveyors) are used in almost all buildings of more than a few stories high. Traffic design and control, namely the movement of people by natural and mechanical means, need to be planned carefully as the costs of under- or over-provision are considerable and changes are not always possible. The subject is covered in four sections. The basic principles of circulation and an introduction to lifts are set out at the beginning, and then traffic design methods are outlined, followed by an examination of analysis and control. The sections are complete in themselves and are presented in depth, with worked examples and case studies as appropriate. The latest analysis techniques are set out, and the book is up-to-date with current technology. The mathematics is simplified wherever possible and copious references are given for further study and examples. The practising vertical transportation engineer involved with the sizing of a vertical transportation installation will find this an excellent and authoritative resource. Other members of the design teams: architects, developers and owners, will find the book a useful reference, and the needs of researchers, lecturers and students of the subject will also be satisfied by this simple presentation of the underlying theory. The engineering aspects, which fall into the areas of manufacturing and production, are not covered, but the practical constraints and considerations are indicated.

Book Description
Lift is a kind of system in building to move people upward and downward vertically at height building. In Malaysia, most of the lifts in the buildings are available only five levels and above thus the movement of disable people below than five levels are limited. So, the idea of design and analysis of light weight and lift system for the use of disable people is developed. Disable people subjected for whom using wheelchair or more specifically people walking is difficult or impossible due to mental or physical illness, injury, or disability to move. The aim of design is transporting a disable people using wheelchair from ground floor to first floor. Design concept of lift is based on rails, electric motor and gears. A suitable rail, electric motor and gear have considered in this design. Another part of lift design is platform and space requirement of platform depend on space of wheelchair and capacity of lift design. All components have been selected in order to design reliable lift system. The structural and component model of lift will be developed using the SOLIDWORKS software. The three-dimension solid model is then imported to the ALGOR software to an analysis on the sustainable and the COSMOS (motion) software to see the motion of the lift system.

Book Description
A computer program (codenamed FOREL) has been written which simulates the lift traffic conditions existing in the morning up-peak and evening down-peak period for any specified single- zone office building. The program in its present form is a prototype for more sophisticated systems of lift analysis. On the basis of specified performance criteria, a number of feasible solutions are generated with a full listing of relevant information about each solution. To use the program the operator must supply the following data which is punched onto data cards: BUILDING LENGTH IN FEET; BUILDING WIDTH IN FEET; NUMBER OF FLOORS (ABOVE GROUND); STOREY HEIGHT IN FEET; HEIGHT OF GROUND FLOOR IN FEET; EXPECTED LIFE OF THE BUILDING. Internally are specified: a 5 minute handling capacity in terms of a % of building population (ie. 12%) a maximum value for the average waiting interval both of these figures are supplied for the morning peak period which is regarded as the critical period. On the basis of this information, the program then calculates the number of lifts of a certain size and speed which are required, checking each solution for the above criteria and against the performance during the evening peak period. Output from the program consists of a complete list of all possible, feasible solutions with the following information provided: NUM BER OF LIFT CARS; SIZ E OF LIFT CARS; SPEED OF LIFT CARS; AVERAGE WAITING INTERVAL, & HANDLING CAPACITY for morning and evening peak periods; RETURN TRIP TIME; AREA OCCUPIED BY LIFT WELLS EXPRESSED AS A % OF RENTABLE AREA; GRADE OF SERVICE ASSESSMENT; COST BASED UPON PRESENT WORTH SITUATION. This listing allows full comparison of all solutions. No final decision is made by the computer. The responsibility of this still rests with the designer. In this way, the program remains a design aid and not a design mechanism.

Book Description
Lifts are installed in the buildings to satisfy the vertical transportation needs of their occupants and visitors. They are necessary to provide a comfortable means of transportation to the different levels in a building. Lifts play major role and provide a great deal of influence to the total function of a building, especially if the usage and numbers of elevator is not properly planned. The lift shafts are not easily modified in later stages of building development. Therefore the fundamental elevator design must be planned at the very beginning. The main objective of this project is to study the passenger lift traffic performance in office buildings. Six office buildings were visited. They are two in Putrajaya and four in Kuala Lumpur. The analysis was concentrated on the buildings with Elevator Management System (EMS). The EMS was used to capture the lifts performance data. The data were analysed based on the average waiting time (A WT) and the lifts traffic pattern. This study also was focused on the lift arrangement in the office buildings and zoning of the lifts. There is no specific law controlling the lifts quality of service. Poor quality of service can cause bad image, high maintenance cost and can affect the building reputation. Building management will receive many complains and tenants will find another place for better quality of service. Result shows that the most importance criteria for lift quality of service is the waiting time. Waiting too long for lift can make people irritable i.e. waiting time more than 30 seconds. This can encourage vandalism and can cause lift to brake down. It can affect the lift safety and in worse case it can cause fatalities.

Book Description
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Engineering - Mechanical Engineering, grade: 3.0, Savitribai Phule Pune University, formerly University of Pune (Pune Vidyarthi Griha's College of Engineering and Technology), course: Mechanical Engineering, language: English, abstract: The position of center of gravity of a vehicle plays a very important role in the dynamics of the vehicle. It needs to be balanced in the lateral direction. Its position in the longitudinal direction and its height has an important role in the design of the braking system. It also has an effect on the suspension geometry of a vehicle. Now, for finding out the Center of gravity of any vehicle, it needs to be lifted at some required height from one end. A vehicle has tremendous weight and therefore, a huge lifting force is required. To be able to carry out such a task, hydraulic systems are generally used. Out of the various hydraulic systems, hydraulic scissor lift is the best suitable option for carrying out this function. Nowadays, scissor lifts are being used for various applications such as aerial work platforms, lift tables, etc. Our project is an innovative application of scissor lifts to find out the Center of gravity of a vehicle.
