The intruder smiled brightly, clearly enjoying himself. He took in a deep breath as the wind blew my scent towards him, his hands tightening around my neck. I could tell he was getting hungry and impatient, as his golden eyes suddenly turned a shade close to red. I felt air leave my body, as I fought his vice-like grip, struggling to breathe. I knew if I didn't do anything, I would be unconscious in a few minutes. "Threaten him", the voice in my head said. What would I say to this merciless demon that would possibly scare him? "Think fast or you will lose your life", the voice warned with a growl. "My mate is a beta, and you know werewolves don't joke with their mates, he'd come for you", I said with the little life I still had in me. "Beta?" The voice asked. Alpha would have been better, it continued". The intruder looked startled, and his grip slackened a little. For a moment I prayed he had fallen for my threat, and was going to back away. He stood calculating for a moment, and after a while, turned to stare at me with a wicked-looking smile, tightening his loosened grip. "I'd be done with the deed before your mate shows up". A tear slipped down my cheek as I felt life slipping away from my body, I couldn't breathe. Slowly, I faded into unconsciousness. I heard the voice in my head scream...

Book Description
A captivating debut fantasy inspired by the legend of the Chinese moon goddess, Chang'e , in which a young woman's quest to free her mother pits her against the most powerful immortal in the realm and sets her on a dangerous path--where choices come with deadly consequences, and she risks losing more than her heart. Growing up on the moon, Xingyin is accustomed to solitude, unaware that she is being hidden from the powerful Celestial Emperor who exiled her mother for stealing his elixir of immortality. But when Xingyin's magic flares and her existence is discovered, she is forced to flee her home, leaving her mother behind. Alone, untrained, and afraid, she makes her way to the Celestial Kingdom, a land of wonder and secrets. Disguising her identity, she seizes an opportunity to learn alongside the Crown Prince, mastering archery and magic, even as passion flames between her and the emperor's son. To save her mother, Xingyin embarks on a perilous quest, confronting legendary creatures and vicious enemies across the earth and skies. When treachery looms and forbidden magic threatens the kingdom, however, she must challenge the ruthless Celestial Emperor for her dream--striking a dangerous bargain in which she is torn between losing all she loves or plunging the realm into chaos. Daughter of the Moon Goddess begins an enchanting, romantic duology which weaves ancient Chinese mythology into a sweeping adventure of immortals and magic, of loss and sacrifice--where love vies with honor, dreams are fraught with betrayal, and hope emerges triumphant.

Book Description
Woman's mysterious bleedings in time with moon cycles were first seen as the human embodiment of the cosmic mysteries of birth, death and rebirth and served as the basis for time-keeping. With the rise of absolute kingships in the Ancient Near East, authority shifted from women and goddesses to men and gods. The male sun displaced the cycling moon as dominant deity. This conflict between the moon and sun estranged women from the cosmic dance and led to their social marginalization. Spiritual imagery became solar, an exclusive and masculine imagery recognizing only one truth and demonizing all else. Incorporated into Judaism and Christianity, this imagery became an integral part of Western culture. The history of the Jewish and Christian calendars show how women were excluded from time-keeping, further marginalizing them. This eliminated the natural world from time-keeping, adding to our alienation from nature. To end the Battle between the Moon and Sun a new spiritual imagery must replace the current solar form. The history of the Battle shows that redeveloping the old female lunar imagery could help restore social inclusiveness and a reverence for life.
