Book Description
Adult ADHD: Diagnostic Assessment and Treatment, Third Edition covers not only diagnostic assessment, but also comorbidity patterns as well as differential diagnosis of ADHD with for example bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder. The symptom overlap and misdiagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome in girls and women with the inattentive subtype of ADHD, ADD is explored. The chronic delayed sleep phase syndrome associated with ADHD based on disturbances in the circadian rhythm, and the possible consequences for general health (obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer) are discussed. There are sections on ADHD and intelligence, criminality, sexuality, dyslexia and autism. Adult ADHD can be treated effectively but as yet the disorder is not always recognised by professionals and this book aims to help correct this. Diagnostic tools are included, such as the structured Diagnostic Interview for Adult ADHD (DIVA), and an ultra-short and somewhat longer screening tool, all based on the DSM-IV criteria for ADHD. Treatment options cover psychoeducation and motivation and individual and group coaching; long-acting stimulants and other new drugs for treating ADHD; use of melatonin to treat the delayed sleep-phase disorder. Useful information is included on the setting up and organisation of a department for adult ADHD with a multidisciplinary team. References, websites and useful international addresses have all been updated. Adult ADHD: Diagnostic Assessment and Treatment, Third Edition is intended for students, junior doctors/residents, psychologists, psychiatrists, other mental healthcare professionals and interested parties and provides a quick overview of the current state of the science and of the methods used in diagnosis and treatment. Adult ADHD: Diagnostic Assessment and Treatment, Third Edition was originally published by Pearson Assessment and Information BV, The Netherlands.

Book Description
"Three of the most common diagnoses of children served under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) include Dyslexia, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These neurodevelopmental disorders affect cognitive functioning and can create challenges for children in academics, social interactions, emotional regulation abilities, and daily functioning. Children with these diagnoses have been shown to have higher rates of depression compared to typically developing children. Research has shown that episodes of depression alter brain functioning and each episode puts the individual at greater vulnerability for future episodes of greater severity. These studies highlight the importance of timely intervention in the treatment of depression. Depression often present [sic] differently in children and symptoms of depression overlap with those of Dyslexia, ADHD, and ASD, often impeding an accurate or timely diagnosis of depression in these children. Currently, no depression measures exist that are catered to these populations, highlighting the need for additional research. This study aims to study the prevalence of depressive symptoms in children ages eight to 16 who have been diagnosed with Dyslexia, ADHD, or ASD. This study will analyze existing data that was gathered by psychological service personnel in a midsize multicultural school district within the years of 2006-2018. Subjects were administered the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) and the Behavioral Assessment Scale for Children (BASC). The research will focus on the frequency of three commonly identified depressive symptoms in children: depressed mood, social withdrawal, and somatization"--Page 6.

Book Description
A practical guide to understanding and treating children and adolescents prone to extreme levels of angry outbursts, Disruptive Mood: Irritability in Children and Adolescents is based on the very latest research and theory. Providing both a clinical and scientific perspective on irritability in children, this book is a timely look at recent developments in the field. Abnormal states of anger are a common reason for referral to child health services, and cause concern in clinics, schools, and families. Misdiagnosis and treatment can stem from a lack of understanding of the mechanisms involved in high levels of anger in children, and Disruptive Mood: Irritability in Children and Adolescents provides clear guidance on the development of abnormal states of anger, their consequences for later development, and how to assess and make differential diagnoses between them. A useful resource for clinical practice, this book is concise and accessible, and offers tools for evaluating treatments. Disruptive Mood: Irritability in Children and Adolescents is designed for practitioners involved in child and adolescent mental health and education and researchers who need an introduction to this complex field.
