Pourtant ce sujet n’est pas abordé lors de nos études médicales.J’ai voulu savoir quelles étaient les attitudes et connaissances des médecins généralistes vis - à - vis des mutilations sexuelles féminines. Sont-ils confrontés aux femmes mutilées ?S’occupent- ils de la prévention de l’excision des jeunes filles ? Savent-ils prendre en charge les femmes mutilées ?Pour répondre à ces questions j’ai fait une étude par questionnaire anonyme que j’ai envoyé aux généralistes des 12e, 18e, 19e et 20e arrondissements parisiens.Il en ressort que les médecins ayant répondu ont de bonnes connaissances et sont sensibilisé sur ce sujet mais qu’ils ne sont pas suffisamment vigilant quant aux risques de mutilation ni ne prennent suffisamment en charge les femmes mutilées.En fin de thèse, je donne quelques propositions simples pour améliorer le dépistage et la prévention des MSF et de leurs complications. J’insiste aussi sur la nécessité d’enfin intégrer ce sujet dans nos études de médecine.

Elles ont des conséquences médicales, psychologiques et sexuelles désastreuses. Le médecin généraliste, praticien de premier recours, a un rôle central dans le dépistage, la prévention et la prise en charge des MSF. Paradoxalement, ce sujet est pour beaucoup d'entre eux méconnu car très peu enseigné lors des études médicales. Le but de l'étude était d'évaluer les connaissances des médecins généralistes et des internes en médecine générale du Calvados sur ce sujet. Méthode : Étude descriptive transversale quantitative par questionnaire. Échantillonnage par tirage au sort. Envoi de questionnaires papier ou web après contact téléphonique puis rappel. Résultats : 136 réponses exploitables sur les 503 questionnaires envoyés (27 %). 50% des participants ne se sentent pas capables de reconnaitre une MSF, 80% ne connaissent pas les complications des MSF, 76,5% ne connaissent pas le nombre de femmes mutilées vivant en France, 89% ne connaissent pas les lieux de prise en charge ni les associations. 86% se sentent concernés par la prise en charge des MSF et 91% estiment que le sujet devrait être davantage abordé pendant les études. Conclusion : Malgré un niveau de connaissance insuffisant, les médecins généralistes se sentent concernés par la problématique des MSF et souhaitent être mieux formés.
