Book Description
Uptown girl, tattooed bad boy. Think you know which one is wild? You’d be wrong. THE DONNELLYS, BOOK 2 Greenwich Village is home to successful artist Jimmy Donnelly, and the world is his playground. A broken heart in college left him with zero interest in being tied down. But when he meets a sexy, quick-witted Manhattan attorney, he reconsiders his bad boy ways. Sonja Martin’s life is filled with work, an ex-husband who refuses to stay gone, and a teenage daughter who won’t follow the rules. Jimmy, with his myriad of tattoos and piercings, looks more like one of her clients than a potential lover. But when every argument between them feels more like foreplay, she can’t seem to stay out of his bed. The heat burns through whatever defenses Sonja thought she had. And Jimmy finds his every fantasy fulfilled—and exceeded—by a woman whose fire burns as bright as her fiercely guarded vulnerability. But his case for breaking her out of her self-imposed mold might just be dismissed. And he’ll lose the best thing he’s ever found. Warning: This book might piss you off. But if I’ve done my job, while you’re busy being pissed off, you’ll also fall in love with the hero and the heroine. May contain: A pompous, misogynistic ex-husband. A rebellious teenager. A ton of sex. Adventurous sex. Make-up sex. Desperate-OMG-GET-YOUR-CLOTHES-OFF sex… Did I mention there’s a lot of sex?

Now that she's grown into an incredibly sexy woman full of Irish spunk, resisting her is out of the question. Besides, in his book all "hands off" rules have expired. One sizzling night together should have been enough. Instead the heat rises, tempting Cyn to take a chance on a long-distance relationship and making Shane consider pulling up stakes and moving back to LA.Cyn's recently dumped ex, however, has other ideas. His quest to get her back escalates into violence, shattering Cyn's faith in herself and in anyone of the male persuasion - and leaving Shane with his work cut out for him to repair the damage or lose his shot at a once-in-a-lifetime love. Warning: This book contains a physical assault. Buckle up for a bumpy emotional journey with the characters as they fall apart and then slowly find their way to healing and to each other. You might get angry or tearful along the way, you may even get frustrated, but as with any good love story, it'll be worth it in the end.

Blinking Red

Publisher: Potomac Books, Inc.
ISBN: 1612346162
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 282
Book Description
After the September 11 attacks, the 9/11 Commission argued that the United States needed a powerful leader, a spymaster, to forge the scattered intelligence bureaucracies into a singular enterprise to vanquish AmericaÆs new enemiesùstateless international terrorists. In the midst of the 2004 presidential election, Congress and the president remade the postûWorld War II national security infrastructure in less than five months, creating the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and a National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC). Blinking Red illuminates the complicated history of the bureaucratic efforts to reform AmericaÆs national security after the intelligence failures of 9/11 and IraqÆs missing weapons of mass destruction, explaining how the NSC and Congress shaped the U.S. response to the 9/11 attacks. Michael Allen asserts that the process of creating the DNI position and the NCTC is a case study in power politics and institutional reform. By bringing to light the legislative transactions and political wrangling during the reform of the intelligence community, Allen helps us understand why the effectiveness of these institutional changes is still in question.

Debating European Security and Defense Policy
Author: Maxime H. A. Larivé
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1317154290
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 281
Book Description
Dr. Larivé questions whether there is such a thing as a European defense and security policy. This book analyzes the integration process by clearly illustrating to the reader the two sides of the argument in order to understand the complexity of the problems in the different stages of the creation and implementation of the European defense policy. In doing so, this study asks the question of why has the process been so halting and of such limited scope? Structured in three parts: Theories, analyzing the theoretical debates raised by the positivist paradigms of neorealism, liberalism and constructivism on European security; History, reflecting on the impacts of the Cold War, American foreign policy, the 2008 economic crisis, and the evolution of European strategy; and, Actors, by looking at the role of European institutions, Member States, and the CSDP on the transformation of the European defense policy since 1998. Each chapter is composed of sub questions allowing the reader to grasp the different forces explaining the deepening or lack of the deepening process of the CSDP. Ultimately, this book offers a unique base for fostering discussion, understanding and critical thinking on the CSDP.

Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus E-Book
Author: Steven Levene
Publisher: Elsevier Health Sciences
ISBN: 0702049972
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 309
Book Description
This title is directed primarily towards health care professionals outside of the United States. In the 21st Century, the management of type 2 diabetes has become even more important both in the primary health care setting and in the UK government's health policy. With the publication of the National Service Framework and the allied National Clinical Guidelines, both patients and the government expect practices to deliver appropriate and effective care to a high standard. This handbook addresses many concepts important in the day-to-day management of these patients. In addition to the discussion of specific medical management of type 2 diabetes (including the improvement of cardiovascular risk factors), the book explores the use of self-management techniques, the consultation process, and the use of psychological techniques to influence health-related behavior. All aspects of the text are linked, when appropriate, to the GMS contract. The authors include a full time GP delivering diabetic care and an eminent Consultant/academic at the leading edge of diabetes research The text is completely up-to-date with numerous current references, incorporating the latest guidance The span of the text is comprehensive, including clinical, organisational and psycho-social topics of importance in delivering high-quality diabetes care The text is cross-referenced to the relevant QOF indicators and NSF standards This book also covers the relevant aspects of diabetes in Curriculum Statement 15.6 prepared by the Royal College of General Practitioners, which forms the basis of the new membership examination and the competencies expected of General Practitioners. The management options include extensive balanced discussions about not just drugs, but also health education and appropriate referrals to specialists The approach is neither didactic nor promotional, and aims to provide sufficient practical information to help clinicians make optimal decisions that take full account of the latest authoritative guidance, but which can be tailored rationally to the individual patient's needs Many of the concepts covered - including reduction of cardiovascular risk, health education, audit and lifestyle - are extremely relevant to non-diabetes care The appendices include a detailed drug formulary and the relevant 2006-2008 QOF clinical indicators. Future trends and further reading are clearly set out, ensuring that the book will remain useful for the next few years.

Fighting on Two Fronts
Author: James E. Westheider
Publisher: NYU Press
ISBN: 0814794955
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 260
Book Description
The racial tensions that have long plagued American society exist to a much lesser extent in the military where the bond of common pursuit and shared experience renders race less relevant. Or so conventional wisdom has long held. In this dramatic history of race relations during the Vietnam war, James E. Westheider illustrates how American soldiers in Vietnam grappled with many of the same racial conflicts that were tearing apart their homeland thousands of miles away. Over seven years in the making, Fighting on Two Fronts draws on interviews with dozens of Vietnam veterans--black and white--and official Pentagon documents to paint the first complete picture of the African American experience in Vietnam. Westheider reveals how preconceptions and petty misunderstandings often exacerbated racial anxieties during the conflict. Military barbers, for instance, were often inexperienced with black hair, leading black soldiers to cut each other's hair, an act perceived as separatist by their white counterparts. Similarly, black soldiers often greeted one another with a ritualized handshake, or dap, as a sign of solidarity, the unfamiliarity of which threatened many white soldiers and was a source of resentment until it was banned in 1973. Despite ample evidence of institutional racism in the armed forces, the military elite responded only when outbreaks of racial violence became disruptive enough to threaten military discipline and attract negative attention from the civilian world. A crucial addition to our understanding of Vietnam, Fighting on Two Fronts is a compelling example of the new military history at its finest.
