Book Description
Used for years by individuals, grief counselors, and support groups, Roses in December has helped readers understand the grieving process, support family members, give insight into sibling grief, and maintain their marriages during difficult times. This newly revised edition offers the same compassion and encouragement plus chapters on losing loved ones under special circumstances, such as suicide and AIDS. With deep empathy, Marilyn helps those who are grieving find God’s comfort. Having lost three sons, she knows the tremendous sorrows and struggles that come with the death of loved ones. Yet she shares how even in the winters of our lives God provides roses—special occasions, special people, and special memories—to give us strength and draw close to Him.

Book Description
Divorce, the termination of marriage, currently affects approximately one out of two marriages in the United States. There is no guarantee for those attending church required marital preparation classes or by celebrating a religious ceremony that the union will not conclude in the tragedy of divorce. As the Church lists marriage as a vocation (a call from God), it is quite evident that in many cases God is not a part of the lived out experience of many married couples. Though much literature has been written on this topic, December Roses details the thought processes associated with the planning and execution of a divorce and the painful emotions and feelings which occur, while at the same time providing a means of prayerful healing for those involved in the divorce situation. Divorce touches many issues and feelings. As marriages die and friendships are broken, the pain cries out for healing. Pastorally, through case study, reflection, and prayer, the issues inherent in any divorce are brought forward to the healing movements of God. As a priest for twenty-six years, I have witnessed, counseled, and cried with family, friends, and parishioners as divorce took its toll on very good people. This book is written with the faith that God is greater than our human moments of grief. Through God's compassion, healing is possible.

Book Description
The inspiring chronicle of a Black community in Virginia fighting for civil rights over the course of a pivotal century Roses in December is a story of strength, courage, and beauty found in difficult times and the most challenging of circumstances. Beginning in the era of Reconstruction and ending with desegregation, Jody Lynn Allen chronicles the lives of newly freed people and their descendants in Hanover County, Virginia, providing an unprecedented look at rural Black Virginians’ resilience after disfranchisement. In the century between 1865 and 1965, Black residents of Hanover County embraced liberty as they organized for education, employment, and religious freedom, and built a community that flourished in the face of white retrenchment and day-to-day oppression. In this at times poignant, at times funny, and always powerful book, Allen’s attention to local, community level history offers an overlooked yet vital perspective of the civil rights movement in the rural South.

Book Description
Who we live for is just as significant as who we die for. As a national bestselling author, Rose Conrad has entertained millions of readers, at least before Altzheimer's set in. Now Rose is dying, and her granddaughter, Clara, has come to care for her. Desperate to know more about the grandmother she's losing, Clara looks at the novels Rose has written to find one striking commonality--all of them include a character named Peter, starting when he is a young man, a rebel fighter in WWII, and ending with his last breath as an old man. Clara senses a story here, one that goes beyond fiction, and even though it seems the only person who knows the truth is dying, she has to find out the truth about Peter before Rose is gone forever because the key to Rose is Peter.
