Author: Saint Ambrose
Publisher: Delphi Classics

Book Description
Saint Ambrose, a fourth century Bishop of Milan, is a prominent figure of the early Christian Church, initiating ideas that widely impacted medieval conceptions of church and state relations. Serving as a model bishop that viewed the church as rising above the ruins of the Roman Empire, Ambrose is also remembered as the teacher that converted and baptised St. Augustine of Hippo, the great Christian theologian. These Mysteries
Author: St. Ambrose of Milan
Publisher: Dalcassian Press
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 44
Book Description
This work by St. Ambros discusses the comparison between the manna from heaven and the true body of Christ, asserting that while the former is a mere shadow, the latter represents the ultimate truth and sustenance. It highlights the impermanence of manna, which is subject to corruption, versus the eternal and incorruptible nature of Christ's flesh. The text also references biblical examples to reinforce the idea that the true essence of faith transcends mere appearances, encouraging believers to recognize the profound reality of Christ's presence in the Eucharist.

Summa contra hereticos
Author: Donald Prudlo
Publisher: Society for the Study of Medieval Languages and Literature
ISBN: 0907570771
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 397
Book Description
Peter of Verona is a critical bridge between the founding generation of the Dominican Order and its achievements in the schools of the late 13th century. A dynamic preacher and peacemaker, Peter was intimately involved in the anti-heretical efforts of his order and of the papacy. The Summa contra hereticos, here edited and translated for the first time, is a product of the initial flush of Dominican efforts in academic work, dating between 1235-1238. The introduction to this work attempts to establish Peter's authorship as strongly as possible. The text testifies to the efforts of the Church in defense of orthodoxy in the early 1200s, as well providing insight into the nature of the friars' intellectual project at that time. Fiercely polemical, it reads as if the author certainly had firsthand knowledge of the struggles. It represents a significant window into Dominican life between the early foundation and the work of Albert and Thomas.
