Book Description
Evaluation of design ideas is an integral part of designing built environments. It involves multiple stakeholders with diverse backgrounds reviewing design solutions by studying their form and performance data. Although there are computational systems for supporting evaluation tasks, they are either highly specialized for designers or configured for a particular workflow with limited functions. I developed a Design Analytics method aiming at a collaborative and data-driven evaluation of alternatives in the design-evaluate-feedback cycle. Adopting this approach, I introduce D-ART as a prototype system composed of customizable Web interfaces for presenting design alternatives, enabling stakeholders to participate in data-informed discourse on alternatives and providing feedback to the design team. Its system design considers requirements gathered through literature review, critical analysis of the existing systems and collaboration with our industry partners. Finally, I assessed D-ART's design through an expert review evaluation, which generally reported positive results on the system's utility.

Book Description
Evaluating design alternatives is a collaborative activity in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry involving the design team members and other non-expert design stakeholders. However, collaborative design tools are usually tailored for the specialized design team members participating in the decision-making process. These tools have limited features for non-design expert users, such as a lack of direct support for sharing feedback or coupling comments with design data, which can hinder collaboration. In an expert-user study, I investigated how to improve meaningful collaboration through interactive design-data dashboards that can present design alternatives with their form and performance data and enable receiving feedback from the design stakeholders directly on the data visualizations. In the study, I questioned (1) how collaboration between the designers and design stakeholders happens when they consider multiple design alternatives in real-world practices, (2) how coordinated annotation on design data for feedback sharing can encourage collaborative decision-making, and (3) proposal and realization of new system features for annotation-focused and data-informed collaborative evaluation of design alternatives. The results from our study reveal extensive use of multi-target coordinated annotation, methods for embedding annotation in the data visualizations, methods for sorting and organizing annotations, and possible functions for interaction based on the annotations. Based on these results, I propose a set of high-level requirements for coordinated annotation for collaborative decision-making with a high-fidelity annotation feature on a prototype interface built on an existing Design Analytics tool called D-ART.

Book Description
The three-volume set CCIS 1419, CCIS 1420, and CCIS 1421 contains the extended abstracts of the posters presented during the 23rd International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2021, which was held virtually in July 2021. The total of 1276 papers and 241 posters included in the 39 HCII 2021 proceedings volumes was carefully reviewed and selected from 5222 submissions. The posters presented in these three volumes are organized in topical sections as follows: Part I: HCI theory and methods; perceptual, cognitive and psychophisiological aspects of interaction; designing for children; designing for older people; design case studies; dimensions of user experience; information, language, culture and media. Part II: interaction methods and techniques; eye-tracking and facial expressions recognition; human-robot interaction; virtual, augmented and mixed reality; security and privacy issues in HCI; AI and machine learning in HCI. Part III: interacting and learning; interacting and playing; interacting and driving; digital wellbeing, eHealth and mHealth; interacting and shopping; HCI, safety and sustainability; HCI in the time of pandemic.

Book Description
Editor J. Bradley Cousins and colleagues meet the needs of evaluators seeking to implement collaborative and participatory approaches to evaluation in Collaborative Approaches to Evaluation: Principles in Use. Using a multi-phase empirical process to develop and validate a set of principles to guide collaborative approaches to evaluation, the book outlines the principles that the team developed, and then provides case studies of how these principles have been applied in practice. The case studies draw on programs globally in education, health, and community development. The book is an invaluable supplementary text for program evaluation courses where students’ projects are focused on more collaborative and participatory approaches, and it is an essential resource for practicing evaluators and those who commission program evaluations.

Book Description
Design occurs in a rich social context where the effectiveness and efficiency of social interaction and collective performance are key to successful outcomes. Increasingly, design is being explored and developed as a collective, collaborative, participatory, and even community process. The heightened recognition of designing as a social process has stimulated interest in collaborative design. This book contains the proceedings of the international conference "CoDesigning 2000" held in Coventry, England, September 2000. During this meeting exponents from a wide range of design domains came together to present and discuss perspectives on and new knowledge and understanding of collaborative design, and the evidence for enhanced design performance through collaboration. Within this volume different motivations for, conceptions of, and findings about collaborative design are addressed in 50 contributions by different research groups. Structured into 6 sections according to the main fields of interest, it provides a survey of the state of scientifically based knowledge and trends emerging from collaborative design research and their implications for a wide range of domains.

Book Description
This volume constitutes the proceedings of the Second Working Conference on Practice-Driven Research on Enterprise Transformation (PRET), held in Delft, The Netherlands, on November 11, 2010. PRET acts as a platform to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and strives for synergy and cross-fertilization between industry and academia. Thus all authors have been asked to combine theory and practice by using real-life case studies and referring to practical experiences. The 9 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 24 submissions, and are grouped in three sections on situational transformation; portfolio, program and project management; and enterprise architecture to align business and IT.
