Woof!
Author: Michael Daniels
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781887895521
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Michael Daniels has written a book that is very practical in content and is careful to make the very important distinction between the world of fantasy and the world of reality, which can be a major pitfall for so many persons attracted by the allure of the notion of living as a human dog or human dog owner. By dealing with the subject manner in a very realistic, matter-of-fact manner, the author presents very useful material that any person interested in this particular lifestyle would do well to read the book if for no other reason than to get a good understanding of what can be realistically expected from the lifestyle and what is storybook fiction. Mr. Daniels handles that aspect of his subject matter in a most professional manner. The author states at the outset that he is a gay Master and can only write from that perspective. He expresses no disrespect to anyone in his opening statements, and in the text of his book, he makes references to pansexual lifestylers as well. The cartoons that appear throughout the book, however, are characteristic of gay literature, as are the advertisements and additions in the book. At times the language in the book does seem to cater specifically to gays and to exclude the non-gay population. While this feature of the book may disturb some readers, it is highly advisable that readers who find such signs of gender orientation troubling keep an open mind when reading the book, because the content is well worth reading for anyone who is involved in the lifestyle, if for the relevancy alone, because a more pragmatic manual would be hard to find.

Dispossession
Author: Pete Daniel
Publisher: UNC Press Books
ISBN: 1469602024
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 351
Book Description
Between 1940 and 1974, the number of African American farmers fell from 681,790 to just 45,594--a drop of 93 percent. In his hard-hitting book, historian Pete Daniel analyzes this decline and chronicles black farmers' fierce struggles to remain on the land in the face of discrimination by bureaucrats in the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He exposes the shameful fact that at the very moment civil rights laws promised to end discrimination, hundreds of thousands of black farmers lost their hold on the land as they were denied loans, information, and access to the programs essential to survival in a capital-intensive farm structure. More than a matter of neglect of these farmers and their rights, this "passive nullification" consisted of a blizzard of bureaucratic obfuscation, blatant acts of discrimination and cronyism, violence, and intimidation. Dispossession recovers a lost chapter of the black experience in the American South, presenting a counternarrative to the conventional story of the progress achieved by the civil rights movement.

Dog Bites: A Multidisciplinary Perspective
Author: Daniel Mills
Publisher: 5m Books Ltd
ISBN: 1912178486
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 516
Book Description
The issue of dog bites and dog aggression directed at humans is frequently in the media. However, scientific research and evidence on the subject is scattered and sparse. Public and political opinions are often misinformed and out of proportion to the extent of the problem. Experts who have researched into the many facets involved in the subject have not so far pooled their knowledge together. Dog Bites aims to bring together expert knowledge of the current situation from a wide variety of disciplines to provide information to the many people and professions affected by the issue. Subjects range from the practical, medical, behavioural, sociological and theoretical, but the overall approach of the book is to be objective and integrative. Topics addressed include the genetic basis of aggression, the public image of aggressive dogs, bite statistics, risk factors, the forensics and surgical aspects of dog bites, international legal perspectives, court evidence, first aid treatment, zoonotic disease potential, behavioural rehabilitation options, risk to children and a consideration of why some dogs kill. All contributors are academic or long-standing professional experts in their field and represent a wide spread of international expertise. The issue is an important one for pet owners, vets, animal shelters, and anyone who works with dogs, such as the police. This book is a valuable resource for them as well as for animal behaviourists, academic researchers, health professionals, dog breeders and handlers. Please be advised that this book contains strong images of the subject matter that some readers may find distressing. 5m Books
